SEIZED WEAPONS LOT-212021; ITEM OF INTEREST A
ITEM OF INTEREST INVENTORY AND IDENTIFICATION
LOT NO: 212021 | CASE PIN: 212021-A
LOCATION OF LOT SEIZURE: Checkpoint Zeke; Turkish-Georgian Border
ITEM DISCRIPTION OF: 212021-A
Item 212021-A is an AR/Stoner pattern, direct gas impingement centerfire rifle of indeterminate manufacture; It is constructed in a "Dissipator" style with a rifle length gas tube and matching handguard, and is chambered in the Soviet/Russian 5.45X39 cartridge, which is an uncommon cartridge for AR/Stoner pattern rifles.
Even more unusual however, is the variety of parts and manufacturing that have been used in the construction of this rifle.
-The Lower lacks any and all serialization, company rollmarks or brands, Proofmarks, or any other identifying features aside from the caliber designation and the Fire Selector Markings. There's also a distinct lack of tool and machining marks on the lower as well, which would indicate that these Lower Receivers being manufactured to exceptionally tight tolerances and high quality standards; which is worrisome as an "average" criminal enterprise would be EXTREMELY unlikely to maintain this level of quality without direct assistance from a weapons manufacturer.
-Additionally, despite being ostensibly a "Civilian" Lower Receiver as it lacks the third pinhole, the weapon is still capable of Fully-Automatic fire due to an installed D.I.A.S, whish raises additional questions as to a potential manufacturer, and who they're being manufactured for and for what purpose. Like the Lower, the D.I.A.S. itself is completely void of any and all labels or marking, and is very well manufactured.
-The Barrel measures 17.81 Inches in length, has a 1/2X28 thread at the muzzle, and it fitted with a Rifle Length gas system. This odd barrel length coupled with the gas system would seem to indicate that the barrel was originally 20 Inches in length before being shortened into the current configuration; But this is unlikely as "full length", M16 Style rifles chambered in 5.45X39 are not known to be manufactured by any major arms company, So the odd barrel length paired with the rifle length gas system can only be assumed to be a conscious decision on the part of the manufacturer.
-The Weapon also came with a Craft Produced suppressor attached as well. The Suppressor is approximately 3.7 inches in length, and approximately 3.2 inches in Diameter; It mates to the gun via the previously mentioned 1/2X28 thread at the muzzle. The Suppressor also has a removable "End Cap" opposite to where it attaches to the weapon that allows access to the suppressor's internals, which are a standard set of stacked baffles that are fitted to the device's size with a final rubber wipe attached to the removable end cap. The device also lacks any and all markings relating to its model or manufacturer, so it can be safely assumed that it was craft produced.
-The Magazines also seem to have custom produced elements, as the baseplates contain no markings, the Followers appear to be 3D Printed as to accommodate the geometry of the 5.45X39 Cartridge, and a single piece of duct tape is wrapped around he bottom third of the magazine with "5.45" marked on both sides in permanent marker to designate caliber. The magazine bodies themselves appear to be cannibalized Mil-Spec Aluminum STANAG magazines, as they do display markings consistent with STANAG manufacturers.
-All other components of the weapon appear to be standard Off The Shelf Civilian AR parts, with the exception of the Handguard; as it appears to be an original production, Vietnam Era M16A1 handguard, albeit in exceptionally good condition. All other Furniture and Components (with the exception of a 5.45X39 specific Bolt Head) appear unremarkable. However, the Gas system mates to the barrel gas port via a Low Profile Gas Block with a separate front sight post placed slightly ahead. Why this setup was used as opposed to a standard A2 Font Sight/Gas block is unknown, but much like the Nonstandard Barrel Length/Gas System discrepancy, perhaps this was either a stopgap fix or a specifically requested feature.
RELATION TO PARENT LOT: Currently, this one rifle stands out from the rest of the lot if for no other reason than the severe lack of available information to be gleaned from its construction. The majority of the remaining contraband weapons were marked and serialized as expected for mass produced firearms, so it is currently unknown what (if any) significance this one item possesses.
The only connecting thread between the rest of the Seized Weapons was that they appeared to be loaned/donated material aid to Ukraine from mainly NATO countries, and as of such, would have been nonstandard in Russian and North Korean inventory should it have remained there.
The most logical conclusion drawn so far is that these nonstandard weapons were in transit to a third party buyer and would have been exchanged for already supported weapons and ammunition in the Russian/North Korean logistical system.
However, until we can coerce some more information out of the personnel apprehended with the contraband weapons, no concrete theories can be formed with any real finality or certainty.
Updates and addendums will be added as the situation develops.
