Interesting, it sort've has a Guyver-like quality to it. In one of my universes, my characters powers are only possible with a suit like this. Though his suit is more like a mesh of symbiotes than anything else. A bunch of living nano-suits, each designed for a specific purpose, had been deemed failures and were all deposited on an uninhabitable world. Several decades of this later, and the military had finally found a design that, while somewhat limited in what they could do (they couldn't have more than one 'purpose' per suit), still fit their agenda, and so they produced dozens of suits; each with their own unique gift.

Advance to several years down the line, and Korin gets kidnapped by the government for his work in Nano-Biology. Thinking they could force him to help them overcome there problem (the suits can't be worn too long, or they permanently bond to the host and drive it mad, then kill it), they kidnap him and take him aboard one of their ships. Well, to make a long story short (and since I'm sure you don't want to read a wall of text), he basically tells them to go fuck a black hole. So they dump him on an uninhabitable, poisoned world; which turns out to be the very same world they had dumped all those prototype suits decades ago. The suits end up all bonding to him, overcoming their individual faults and giving him his powers.
