Home In The Cold | Shiny Aurorus TF
Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You huddled into yourself, stuck like a Lechonk inside of your tent, hiding away from the bitter cold that viscously clawed at the thin fabric, desperately trying to get at you.
You and several others had ventured to this uncharted mountain off the coast of Sinnoh a few days ago, hoping to map it out, potentially discover a new source of resources.
Yet all you discovered was agony.
It didn’t take long for a devastating snowstorm to sweep the mountain. Its timing was so swift and precise it almost felt like the mountain itself was saving it for a special occasion…one where it got to snuff out the fires of a group of young, glory-hungry fools.
And snuff it did…you hadn’t seen your cohorts in…Arceus, you didn’t know how long, you presumed them to be dead. On that note, ever since the snowstorm blew in, you haven’t been able to tell time at all. You could’ve been up here for days…weeks…hell, this could’ve all happened on the same day.
But either way, you were stuck up here now for the time being…all alone. You dared not peak your head out of your tent to see if the rest of the camp had been swept away by the storm. It would risk letting out what little heat remained.
Yet as you sat in the corner, huddling and shivering…you knew it wouldn’t last forever. You’d eventually have to try and brave the storm and find a way to safety…it was no doubt impossible…but anything was better than running out of rations and starving to death in here.
You looked down at your huddled form. You wore thick mountain-climbing gear that was once a bright, neon orange, but was now faded and nearly white from the snow that had caked onto it over time… You simply looked pathetic. Fitting for the last survivor of a doomed expedition. You didn’t even have any Pokemon to help out with anything, in your group’s collective hubris, you had all believed yourself to not need any help from them.
…Whatever though. What’s done is done. It was finally time…Life or death…
Probably death, but oh well.
Hauling your frost-ridden body up to your feet (which had almost gone completely numb), you slowly and cantankerously made your way out of the tent, instantly being blasted in the face by knife-sharp gusts of chilling wind, draining any remaining warmth from your skin as if it had never been there to begin with. The sound of the wind’s ghostly shrieking drowned out even your own thoughts. You dared not cry, your tears may freeze to your face.
You took one last look at the remains of your camp. All the tents were nearly completely obscured by mounds of snow, and there was also once a firepit in the center, but it was completely obscured.
You instinctively hugged yourself to conserve heat…then picked a direction at random and began walking in it. There was no real way to tell what direction was what up here, any signs would’ve been swept away faster than one could say ‘footprints’.
It wouldn’t take long for the remains of the campground to disappear, leaving you completely lost and alone in this white wasteland. You could feel the cold already working its way past your skin and deep into your innards…it wouldn’t be long until you were finally claimed by the mountain…
But then you heard something…even through the howling of the wind, you heard something. It was a little voice, one that sounded very afraid…
You didn’t really know why, but you slowly turned towards the direction of the voice and began to head in its direction, straining your ears to get a better hold on what direction it was coming from. After a few moments you were even able to make out a few words…
“…mura…! Ah…mura…!”
…It was a Pokemon…it sounded just as lost and afraid as you were…
Through your numb lips you managed to stammer out: “H-Hey little guy…! J-Just stay right there…” Hopefully loud enough for it to hear. You didn’t know exactly why you were trying to head to the Pokemon…maybe it was just some protective instinct, maybe you just wanted some kind of company for your last moments…
After several more moments of pained walking, the source of the cries finally came into view: An Amaura.
“Wh-What the…?” If you weren’t mistaken, Pokemon like this had gone extinct long, long ago…maybe a small pocket of their population had survived on this mountain? Maybe this was all a figment of your imagination? Oh well, not that it mattered anymore.
The Amaura looked up at you, its big eyes glistening with tears…it was then you looked down and noticed a single diamond, one that would typically be attached to Amaura’s evolved form; Aurorus.
And it was then that you realized what had happened…
“Oh no…I…I’m so sorry little guy…” You murmured, falling to your knees and gently laying your hand on the Amaura’s head. It let out a small whimper as it leaned its head into your hand. You shakily gave it pets as you fully sat down with it.
“M-Man…if only w-we’d brought Pokeballs w-with us o-or something…” You thought aloud…maybe then you would’ve been able to help the ‘mon better.
“Maura….” Amaura sniffled as it crawled into your lap and laid down on you. It likely just made you even colder, given its typing, but you didn’t mind that. If you could spend your last moments comforting the poor thing, that would be fine.
You slowly wrapped your arms around Amaura, gently stroking its back with your shivering hand.
You both sat like that for several moments afterwards, with you silently petting the Amaura, and the poor thing nuzzling into you while crying. You could feel yourself growing faint, and unwittingly you began to cry, knowing that soon this poor ‘mon would be all alone with no one to protect it…
But right before you closed your eyes, you felt several gusts of wind come flying towards your face, almost as if something large was flapping its wings in your direction…
“M-Maura-?” Amaura yelped, craning its neck in the direction the wind was coming from. You forced yourself to keep your eyes open and look as well.
It wouldn’t take long for the source of the gusts to make itself known…it was a large bird, one with brilliant blue feathers, and a wingspan unlike anything you’d ever seen before.
“A…Articuno…?” You muttered, your eyes widening as much as they could.
“Amaura…!” Amaura whimpered in fear, smushing itself further into you.
Articuno landed on the ground and slowly walked towards you both, stopping at where the diamond lay. It then looked down at the diamond, then upwards at the sky as if it were asking something for permission…
Your eyes narrowed, and you lurched forward ever-so-slightly, (as to not disturb Amaura) trying to figure out just what the hec0k it was doing.
Then it did something REALLY odd…
After getting done with looking up at the sky, Articuno picked up the diamond in its beak, then walked over and stuck it right on your forehead.
You let out a yelp and recoiled back into the snow, causing Amaura to yelp in return and scramble off of you.
Groaning, you sat up and went to rub your forehead, but you instantly retracted your hand when you felt the diamond still stuck there…almost like it was a part of you now.
“Wh-What the fuck-?” You murmured, repeatedly feeling the diamond.
As you did so, something else caught your attention.
You…felt great.
You were still freezing cold, but now your body was just used to it, as if you were an Ice-Type Pokemon. Along with that, you suddenly had all your energy back. It was almost like your body had been completely revitalized. Your eyes darted back and forth between Articuno and Amaura in confusion. Amaura tilted its head in equal confusion, while Articuno just stared at you expectantly.
“I…Wh- HRRRGH-!” Before you could finish speaking, you suddenly felt your whole body tense up, as if it were getting ready for something.
And the event it was preparing for would soon follow when the diamond that was now on your head began to glow brightly, followed by a wave of itchiness spreading over your head, starting at your forehead and spreading all over.
You groaned and reached up to scratch your face, only to be met with the sudden realization that your skin didn’t feel the same anymore…instead of smooth, rubbery skin, your fingertips were met with tough, rigid scales. Your eyes widened and you let out a cry of shock, for unbeknownst to you, you had grown a face-full of snow-white scales.
“M-Maura?! Amaura?!” Amaura cried out, stepping closer to you out of worry, and in that moment, your hair began to retract into your scalp, then further into nothingness as the scales worked their way all around your head.
“Wh-What’s going-AUUUH-on-! What’s happening-?!” You shouted at Articuno as your nose melded away into your face, melting like an eraser. All the while, Articuno still just stared at you with a blank, almost annoyed expression.
“Amaura…?” Amaura cried, taking another step closer in concern.
“I-I’m fine, buddy, j-j-YIPE-“ You were once again cut off by another change. The muscles and bones in your face began to reshape, stretching and pushing outward as your face began to take on a more rounded, sauropod-esque shape, and following up with that, your eyes reshaped as well; widening and taking on an icy blue coloration.
“Ahhh…! Aaah…!” You whimpered as you shakily traced over your new snout with your hands.
And yet even that still wouldn’t be the end of it, as your ears would soon meet the same fate as your nose, shrinking away and disappearing entirely. Following that, a sharp pain went through your neck, causing you to cock your head backwards. When you did, you saw that your midsection seemed to be getting further and further away, and your parka’s hood was forced down…and that’s when you realized your neck was growing.
“AAAH-! AUGH-! MY NECK-!” You shouted, scrambling to your feet (Which frightened Amaura some). With your new neck length, everything felt so much smaller, it was like you were looking down at the world from a ledge.
…That, and it was incredibly wobbly.
And once your neck had reached its maximum length, your layer of scales began to work its way downward. On your neck however, the scales took on a blue, wavy pattern of sorts. It went all the way down your neck, and judging by the itchy feeling in your midsection…the scales were growing there, too.
But you wouldn’t have time to worry about that, for a new change was making itself known.
Starting from your eyebrows, and reaching all the way down to your shoulderblades, a sharp pushing sensation began to show up. Your eyes squeezed shut, and you cocked your head back with a pained groan, and shortly after, what was pushing upwards finally broke free: A pair of beautiful, aurora-like sails plumed out of your head like a solar flare. Your eyes shot back open, and you gingerly ran your hand down them, shuddering at the icy, wavy feeling they gave. Unfortunately though, the lower areas of your sails were smushed underneath your parka.
By now your skin had been entirely replaced by scales, each one with the same texture and toughness as solid ice, but you still retained a general human form…which was steadily draining out of you.
Your feet began to ache as they were next in line to change. You suddenly lost feeling in two of your toes as they shrunk away into nothing, while on the remaining ones, your toenails began to grow into wicked claws, quickly growing to subsume your toes in entirety. Following that, your feet as a whole reshaped, being lifted onto tip-toes as they began to grow.
You tried your hardest to keep your balance, but the pain of your boots constricting your feet was too much, and you fell over onto your back. Subconsciously holding your legs up. You watched with horror as your boots’ shape warped and creaked, and soon you watched as your feet began to tear out of them entirely, splitting the soles from each other with all the grace of a battle axe.
You breathed a sigh of relief as the pressure disappeared momentarily. You slowly laid your feet down in the snow, inwardly grimacing at the fact that it didn’t feel unpleasant at all. In fact it felt quite natural.
But your attention would be diverted once again. A pulsing sensation went throughout your whole body, and with each pulse you felt the slack in your remaining clothing grow ever less.
“Oh no…!” You grunted and flipped over onto your hands and knees, trying to stand back up…but for some reason, you couldn’t bring yourself to. You knew that you were- well, WERE human, and you’d walked on two legs your whole life, so why couldn’t you make yourself stand up?!
And while you pondered that, your clothes became ever tighter as your body expanded.
“A-Are you gonna be okay…?” A familiar voice asked. You looked up to see Amaura, who was standing right in front of you looking at you with more concern than ever.
“Y-Yeah…don’t worry-!” You responded, the fact that you understood the Pokemon somehow going over your head.
What didn’t go over your head though were the sounds of fabric splitting. You could feel the cold air lapping at your legs as the growing muscle mass forced the fabric apart, and you could only watch as you saw the sleeves of your parka rip, your ‘arms’ splitting through the threads barbarically.
“A-Ack-! No-! Not my clothes-!!” You cried out as more and more fabric shredded off. But as if that wasn’t enough, you could feel your hands beginning to ache now.
“Oh no-! No no no!” You cried, but there was nothing you could really do to stop it, so you just braced for the changes.
Your fingers all stuck into each other, followed by your fingernails growing in a similar fashion to your toenails, however unlike them, they all fused into one another as well before growing over the rest of your fingers, turning them into one large claw. Meanwhile, your thumbs grew into a short, useless dewclaw.
Your body continued to swell. The zipper of your parka burst open, and you could feel the back beginning to tear, and you could also feel something growing out of your rear, and compounding it even further, you felt more diamonds beginning to grow out of your skin on both sides, periodically dotted all around your body.
You continued grunting in discomfort as the new appendage began to strain against your pants. Your belt especially was being stretched to its absolute limits.
“C-Come on…! Hang in there-!” You mumbled, feeling as fabric peeled off your knees, and the shoulders of your parka burst off.
With one final push, your brand-new tail exploded out of your pants, snapping your belt off and causing it to fall into the snow. Following that, with one more cry of discomfort, your body finally shredded through what remained of your clothing, the useless scraps of fabric being swallowed up by the snow. Never to be seen again, just like your former humanity.
You could finally catch your breath, and you looked around to find Articuno and ask it what the hell it did to you, but it was nowhere to be found. It must’ve split the scene a while ago…
You sighed and then looked down at Amaura, who looked up at you with a wonderstruck expression.
“W-Wow! You…You look just like mama looked…!” He stuttered.
“Y-Yeah…haha…” You laid your newly-massive body down in front of him as to get down on his level.
“So…um…what DID happen to your mom?” You asked the ‘mon, speaking in a soft and gentle voice.
Amaura’s expression immediately shifted into one of fear and sorrow as he began to explain. “She…um…t-two men, th-they were dressed like you were…t-t-th- um- they attacked mama…! Sh-Shouted stuff l-like ‘food’! A-And-!”
“Hey, hey…” You interrupted him, gently hugging him with you neck and bringing him close to your chest, where he proceeded to snuggle into you while sniffling.
The people that attacked this poor thing’s mom…they must’ve been a part of your expedition…
(“…Good riddance.”) You thought.
Maybe that’s why Articuno did this…it saw you worthy of a second chance after you deigned to spend what would’ve been your last moments comforting someone in need instead of harming it to prolong your own existence…
“You don’t have to worry, alright, little guy? I doubt they’ll come back, but if they do, I’ll be here to protect you.” You told Amaura.
“Th-Thank you…!” He responded nuzzling harder into you. “U-Uhm, w-we um, w- um, we um-“
“Slow down, I’m not going anywhere.” You gently corrected, chuckling.
“S-Sorry! Um, me and mama lived in a-a cave m-more up the mountain before she…” Amaura trailed off.
“Gotcha.” You began. “Well…I think we could both use some rest, so how about we just lay here for a while? At least until the snowstorm passes.”
“O-Okay! I like that!” Amaura cheered.
So there you both sat, you keeping your eyes peeled for any dangers, and Amaura soon falling asleep in your company. It would be quite a while before the snowstorm finally subsided, allowing you to see the beautiful blue sky that a while ago, you feared you would never see again.
Yet here you were, no longer human, now the guardian of what was essentially now your son. Your life had changed so drastically and permanently in just a few short moments…
Yet you didn’t mind it. Not in the slightest.
For both you and Amaura, you were comfortable.
You were home.
