I realized just now that after all this time I still had not drawn the reindeers for Santa's sake ! The freaking reindeers ! It's as if I drew a beach without a sea ! I had drawn Rudolph, but he was a specific reindeer, not general ! Anyway. The concept of reindeers dragging Santa Claus' sleigh was created in an anonymous poem called Old Santeclaus with Much Delight published in 1821 in New York, at the same time as the character of Santa Claus himself who was then just at his prototype. There was then only one reindeer. It's from 1823 that there would be a total of 8 reindeers, the most known number today, in the famous poem The Night Before Christmas. Their names are Dasher, Dancer, Vixen, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. Their genders change from one interpretation to another ; at times all males (originally), at times all females (nowadays since we found out in the meantime only females keep their antlers in December, hence the fact I drew Rudolph without antlers), at times some females, some males or an equal number
