If you've ever been put in charge of cooking a Christmas dinner, you'll understand just how epic an undertaking it can be - and most people often only have to cook for a handful of parents, children and in-laws. Just be glad you're not Izzy Rozycki, ship's cook onboard the Stellar Typhoon - who has to cater for an entire ship's company of 75 people! She takes this responsibility very seriously - too seriously, her crewmates think, for she commands the whole cooking process very much like a military operation. It doesn't help that for her birthday (which is only on December 17th), she got a cookbook by a certain foul-tempered chef, and it seems his attitude's rubbed off on her. Taiho should consider himself lucky he didn't get her one of Marco Pierre White's books - that would have ended in certain death.
I actually had this idea towards the end of 2023, when I had the Christmas special of James May's Man Lab on as background noise while working on SPCM#5. One of the sections in that concerned the planning and cooking of Christmas dinner with military precison - complete with a large board counting down to Turkey Time, and detailing exactly what needs doing when. I've reproduced that board here, with the only changes being the addition of who's responsible for what, and the substitution of parsnips for turnips (as per my own Scottish background).
