Running free through the open valley and grass two critters race to an interesting opening in the earth, a familiar feeling made completely different from something missing, a feeling on their back. A feeling, freedom as they wander in the fresh air bounding, paws pounding on the grass below with each breath, to a place the ground opened into a deep crack, asked to simply watch, look at the stone and observe. While boaring to some the unending curiosity of the two kept them keen and interested, something they've become familiar with, the odd way their home may work. Valuing the written word above all with the exception of the keen young, working to detail their memory to be as accurate as notation. with such accuracy it became more efficient to send these small critters as observers. As they would grow this work would be essential in exploring and bring back properly observed knowledge of the greater world beyond their small horizon.

Now resting and watching the two small critters Erica and Val pay close attention to the details of the natural world around them, memorizing every crack in the ground, the shape of the horizon. Siting high above them, their new home the great critter city of Sumer, a peaceful place of learning. The city serves as a grand library and university to the world of critters. Keeping the longest known records of the land and its history many come to this place seeking knowledge or to share their ideas, this place as well providing relative safety from the darker corners of the world.

Sumer-
A city built only century's ago first founded only five hundred years back as a small mining town it quickly grew, as the critters became more affluent they began collecting items of the past found in the world around them. The richest among them forming an small university on the mountain top, as such replacing their fort and becoming the center of what would grow around it. Inviting many of the greatest minds of the time to teach and operate this new place of knowledge, creating many wonders and discovery's. Little would these elite realize this would be their eventual undoing.

In an effort to rule their children only a century later would attempt to cut the funding to the small city forming above them creating a rather small army of payed subjects and after siege attempting by force to take it. As they ascended the mountain it seemed to open up and they would be overwhelmed by a force kept hidden deep within the mine that now provided shelter and a plan.

Wielding complex weapons unseen from the world an never again the small army was swiftly slaughtered and their leaders brought before a newly formed council, the wisest among the wise. Seeing forth the suffering wealth seemed to bring they would punish the aristocrats and strip them of their every position sending them into the wild, never to return apawn the death of their bloodlines. With this act the council would assume control of the valley declaring it an independent land for all critters. A safe place where wealth and the value of knowledge would be shared.

The old town would be demolished shortly after to make way for the walls of this growing university an so it was stone would be layed for another two centuries creating the city sat atop the hill.

The modern day-
This place and valley would come to be known by ordinary critters as a center of trade to the north, a mysterious peaceful place free of the beasts and creature that all to often hunt in the wild. While self sufficient from their great farmers and knowledge of astrology the trade and free flow of critters brings in many wonderful items spices and talents. One could find all it here, to those serving the university the city would be home and all within its walls the vital life line to the world outside. Within the protection of its walls these critters will study their interests furthering knowledge in the working of the world and stars. Or as they are aloud, become explorers recording the farthest wonders and returning home to tell their tales.
