A recent photo of myself and Shenara, to give you an idea of how much he's grown. He's over twelve feet long now, and definitely a handful to hold. }:>

So you work with snakes? Your employer is being very anal then. Health and Safety is about minimising risks so far is -reasonably- practical, not eliminating all risk whatsoever. If you wash your hands after handling them, and learn to read their body language, I don't see any reason why you'd need gloves. Little snakes only give tiny nips, anyhow! :D
He's wonderful. ^^ So large and yet so young. How often do you have to have a second person with you? I ask because I'm thinking, when I get an opportunity better than I have now, to get a larger snake. One that would grow to over five feet, and perhaps longer as the years go by.
I was putting him away in his enclosure, and every time I got part of the tail in, he'd get his head out. So I started blocking his head with my forearm while guiding his tail in... and after a few nudges at my arm to try to get past, he bit it! So in a nutshell, he bit me 'cos I pissed him off, trying to stop him going where he wanted to go. So I'm more sneaky about it now...
It's not the size that counts....
He really is gorgeous. Unfortunately, people often don't realize the commitment they're making when they acquire a friend like a Red-Tail or Burm'. "Duke", the 7'4" RTBoa in this picture (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1111978/) was rescued from outside a small town near my college campus. He's a handsome fellow, and aside from a few tiny scars was remarkably healthy for an abandoned herp. The local animal patrol turned him over to our Biology department when we found out about him, and I've been pulling some resources together to build him a proper habitat out of the glassed-in Lab prep room. (They're not so keen on giving him free reign of our atrium.)
They can be such sweethearts, and with regular handling, it's great to see them learn to trust people who behave well. I still advise against any inexperienced handlers trying a specimen over six feet long or 25 pounds without additional hands. They're -strong- creatures... and damn sexy because of it!
How old is your boy?
(And speaking of bat-eaters, you should give ICEman a poke and ask about his sweetheart! She's growing so fast. <3 )

He/she is beautiful. I wish i could host a home for such a wonderful looking creature but my family are heavily against the idea, and i wouldnt be able to figure out room for a tank...so tight in my home i had to buy a plank of wood so i could but the laptop on my knee XP
My snakies, if you're interested (look for Mr. Brutus).

Woah, I just had to check out your page after seeing your icon, and... wow. What sorts of things does a snake this size eat? Cattle? XD
I'm getting a male red tail boa and definitely plan to not overfeed him. Just not enough room in my house for a snake of that size... but oh, if I did... lol.
Great picture of you both :)

Just rabbits and rats, when he's not being fussy. Which lately he has been :/ And red tails don't grow that long, especially if it's a male, so you should be alright. They like to climb though, so get a nice tall enclosure! And keep your fingers crossed for a bigger house so you can keep a larger constrictor... hee :D
Beautiful - a new law was just passed here that we aren't allowed to have them and told everyone they had to register them. Very few (ok...none) of my friends who own the big guys have registered them because quite honestly we think the government will just want to come in and say "Ok, we know you have that retic...cough it up" and euth it.
So far they've told vets that if there are any donated they have to euth or get them out of the province.
Sad state this is...

Laws like that are utterly ridiculous - dogs and probably even cats cause far more injuries and deaths than large constrictors do. It's just the sheer blind panic mentality and media explosion you get if ever there's an incident relating to a snake. :( Thanks for your kind words - Shenara is one of the tamest snakes I know of, and pretty much everyone who's seen or held him has fallen in love. He's also put on another foot or so since that photo was taken :)
I previously lived in Hong Kong. The most majestic creature I managed to get my hands on (yes I did handle him) was a 16'+ King Cobra. Absolutely magnificent! Of course, I made sure to only handle his lower half and only when he had a good sized feeding bump. Ah to be young and without fear again lol
Very beautiful snake <3 even when they're fully grown, that wouldn't stop me from holding them and letting them hang on me.
BTW, you look like Daniel Radcliffe X3 though whether you take that as an insult or a compliment is up to you. I assure you it was not meant as an insult ^^;
