So you know how I"m red haired and have irish and stuff right? (wait, switch that, reverse it)
I wrote a shanty that is at least a little Celtic.
A bit more straightforward than the usual stuff.
Lyrics:
Frank Jaggerty was, a man who knew no
trouble no strife had he
befallen by riches kin to gods he
bought everything that he could see with a
with a ho and a hey and an out of my way
He dashed along the farthest reaches of the plains.
Aye, the father and the mother
Nearly fit to drown in Gin
Another one fails to quell their sorrow
Another sleepless night and a pale sunrise set to begin.
My Lands, My farms
All swept away without a cause
It’s hard to mourn the loss of life,
When you have no house to give your wife.
Frank Jaggerty came, a riddin’ from the
billowing west so fine
with leather black boots and a chain of gold and a
saddle bag filled with handsome wine
With a ho and a hey and an out of my way
He dashed along the farthest reaches of the plains.
Chorus
Frank Jaggerty said, “I’ve come to take what’s
yours and rightfully.”
A thousand dollars for your lot
Refuse and I’ll give your landlord three with a
with a ho and a hey and an out of my way
He bought and sold what little there was to me name
Chorus
Frank Jaggerty laughed, liquor spilling
Down his chin so red
he staggered out blindly to the street where a
Run away trolly took off his head with a
with a ho and a hey and an out of my way
He’s dashed along the sidewalks and the alley street
Chorus

oh cool,
Really, on FA, I have never heard something like this! And change, variation, I mean, is always great.
For the actual song, I defiantly enjoyed it, and me, being a fan of Celtic, could seriously pick up the good undertone (Celtic) you displayed in this piece!
Very simple, yet very enjoyable!
'We're all animals in the end',

I really wanted to put in the uneven phrases.
It's something in folk music that pop music has neglected.
there's tons of spanish and english folk music with 5 bar phrases or something like that which throws your ear off.
Irish seems to just add a bar or two at random places to acomodate lyricss. The lack of restriction in this aspect of writing is awesome.
Also it just messes with your head a little which is fun ^^

*giggles and bows* why thank you.
It's my first attempt at mirroring a more traditional style. Odd phrase lengths and the like.
glad it was successful ^^
OH and hey thanks for the faves and watches. The gallery is full of stuff you might like as well. Not as much celtic, but some folky things.

I really like traditional music. Of all groups, look for A Perfect Circle (I think that's their name) and I think the song is 'Fiddle and the Drum'

During the writing, a friend of mine composed a sea shanty to go with the story. The journal with the link is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/773833/
Always good to find like minded folks.

I do enjoy the poem. The dialect you're getting at comes out well with the purposed misspellings. A good balance of sollemnity and just a touch of either silliness or I suppose dark silliness (stink too much to keep ya).
the shanty you linked seems to have been either moved or removed as I only get fatal system errors when I click on it :(
