Shifting Up – Story by Redfern
Story written by
Redfern The Cynical Phox.
Redfern wrote a very, very long fanfiction story with my blessing featuring the racer girls Juliyah the Liepard and Reyenna the Delphox in their careers leading up to the Delphoxy transforming to the Mega Form for the first time. Numerous members of my cast are in it including Thundelle, Jasmine, Hayzel, Nesha, Lolanda, and an implied Zenythia in one scene. >3>
This was a delight to see the writing process for this over the months and it helped made me think more on the setting and characters my Pokegals all belong in. Give it a read when you have time!

i just finsihed readin the story (or better say listening via TTS app) and it was pretty hilarious.
Of course this raised a few questions in me:
1. What if Reya's mega evolution had backfired or havent worked?
2. What would happen if a mortal was given the power to become a mega, but decided, albeit with a heavy heart, to reject this gift?
3. How can the gods decide who becomes a Mega and who doesn't and how does the chosen mortal find out that he has been given this gift?
I apologize for the questions but this tory made me very curious about your universe XD

Aww, I'm glad you liked it! ^.^
1) I think for the most part of if didn't work, nothing would happen at all. I imagine it is fairly all or nothing in my setting. >w>
2) Oh! They could essentially just chose to never use pawwear and thus it would go unused. It wouldn't go away or be lost. Just unused.
3) There may be some slight discrepancy on how it actually works in the world and in the story because I didn't know how to convey it to Redfern for the writing. But for the most part, in my head, how it actually works in the setting is Mega form isn't really given. Sort of like a talent or power that is developed over time for mortals to gain a hint of divinity. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes not (in the case of Reyenna). Doing stuff like good deeds, being a good person, and such, naturally helps to develop the power over time; thinking like being a good citizen in the system of things. Then there are some who are just born with bodies naturally attune to the divine energy in the setting.
And what the mega form is for the most part is a mortal made way to unleash that inner power to greater effect without any actual influence from the divine. Purely a mortal created way to harness their internal divine energy. (the exceptions to this are the "mega forms" of the the really, really big variety like Veevautia, Clyssandra, and Typhianna; those are definitely goddess influenced).
So that's roughly how I envision mega forms actually working!
Now how you were asking like it is a higher power gifted, that does happen for godhood. It is actually given in that case. And there are a few instances where that gift was rejected. Sara'Nayde was the most notable rejection because she thought she would lose her freewill to do whatever, like she was when she was Pirate Queen. But eventually, she accepted the role further down the line.
