I've never quite understood taking pride in one's sexual preferences. It's like being proud you like sausage more than bacon, or green more than blue.

Now, taking pride in being strong enough to admit one's preferences is another matter altogether, especially when doing so may alienate you from friends and loved ones. That sort of character strength is something to be proud of.

i never really thought of it that way i guess i should call it self pride in who i am

but that was what its about im dont tell certain people because of how they react to gays in general but all of my close friends know and my intermediate family knows

You must of had a lot of will and emotion behind you when you wrote this, because it reflects in every aspect of the poem.

Personally I'm proud of you, because, against all doubt and worry, you 'came out' to your parents (It does not matter how they reacted).

As a stright person Gay people do not scare me or I feel they are icky. it bothers me most people think it's wrong but I feel we should except people who they are as we would want to be excepted for who ourselves are... there be less wars based on that.
