This is one of the newest educational birds at MRCC. Nigel the Saw-Whet Owl. He came in with a broken wing, and it never healed properly, and the feathers aren't growing back where he was hurt either so he isn't able to fly. Instead of putting him down we applied for an education permit for him, and got approved. So far he's been awesome at programs, he's calm on the perch while being watched. Sorry about the low quality of the picture, it was taken with my cell phone.

My wife has been looking into it a little, there are some decent resources on the net from what I understand, also a few books that are good that she's read. The hard part seems to be finding someone that you can apprentice with. I think that it is required (or at least strongly suggested) to Apprentice for a period of time with another falconer.
