Several thousand years ago in his previous life, Noctis was once a Zoroark named Nychta Orpheus the Court Archmage in the kingdom of Yaldabaoth Azoth the Forbidden King. Once he was simply a righteous conquering king who served the Legendaries and Nychta had even fought alongside him, both of them even shared an ambition to become the greatest Warrior and Mage in the world, but while Nychta could be content in the pursuit of Arcane Knowledge, Yaldabaoth could never be content. His pride and hunger for power were too great and all consuming, and as he grew stronger he began to see the Legendaries themselves as his next enemy to overcome. Nychta tried to warn him that war with the legendaries would only bring untold ruin to the Kingdom and its people, but Yaldabaoth didn't care, he would burn the world to the ground just to rule the ashes. It was too late to stop Yaldabaoth and Nytcha knew he could not win against him in direct combat, but he could still undermine him and be a spy from within. While posing as his loyal court mage Nychta started a rebel network using the Major Arcana cards as their code names, Nychta himself took the name "The Heirophant".

Throughout the war, Nychta maintained a low profile trying to keep his rebellion covert, but the war dragged on to long and one of the members rallied an attack directly on Yaldabaoth himself and was struck down. Nychta was discovered to be the mastermind behind the rebellion and for his treason he was executed. While his rebellion failed, the spirit of their rebellion was passed along through the generations. Following Yaldabaoth's imprisonment the Major Arcana took on a new purpose to monitor the world and try to prevent Yaldabaoth from ever rising again.

Following his death, Nychta's spirit was raised in the form of a Gastly by Yaldabaoth's wife; Queen Asherah Azoth, and was tasked with the ongoing mission to raise and protect her youngest child, Princess Soleanna, who would soon end up going by Sunny because she had a hard time pronouncing "Soleanna". Now going by Noctis, he took Sunny and fled to to the future in order to raise her in a time period far removed from the terror and destruction caused by her father. At least at first, it was just his duty to take care of and protect Sunny, but over the course of living together he came to genuinely care about her. They became a permanent symbiotic pair binding himself to her flame, the essence of her life force which he would guard within his own life.

Sunny the Charmander is very much a little girl; she is friendly to everybody she meets, compassionate, extroverted, optimistic, she loves cute things, being cute, showing off, and is quick to make giggle, but she is also very naive, easily trusting people at their word, unaware of social conducts, and gets herself into other people's business without them asking. She can be impulsive, is more emotionally minded than logical, and doesn't like being dismissed, ignored, or pokemon thinking she's stupid just because she's cute and bubbly.

Noctis the Gastly is very protective and secretive. Even though he technically has not been a Gastly very long, he maintains memories from his previous life and kinda acts like an old man/Grandfather. Around Sunny specifically he is encouraging, supportive, loving, her source of wisdom, and enjoys telling her stories with great dramatic flare. He can also be a little mischievous and cheeky. Around other Pokemon especially ones he doesn't know, he is typically quiet and observant. If addressed he will be serious and polite, but when it comes to protecting Sunny he can become terrifying. For Sunny's sake, he will show mercy and restrain as to not expose her to too much brutal violence, but if she is passed or incapacitated then he'll give you a reason to be afraid of the Dark!
