When the frontier was first discovered there were 9 expeditionaries who were there first. They returned, resupplied for 2 months and upon their return discovered that a young boy had stayed on the surface, alone, having stowed away on their first voyage and gotten left behind. Proving not only the surface was there but also habitable. Eventually this boy became a man and the most decorated and knowledgeable pioneer of the frontier. Something of a callous but charismatic character Bailey was promoted to lead the Expedition of Ridge 8.
His knowledge is without comparison but the frontier has made him somewhat callous, something others on the surface have trouble understanding or can relate to entirely. Perhaps he has spent his whole life running from the underground, or perhaps he only now has found a place that needs him.
