Oakley is a strategic, distance fighter. He is rather weak, and prefers to avoid direct confrontation. Typically he will only approach his opponents if he can confidently disarm them using Knock Off. His main damage-dealing move is Razor Leaf, which he uses from a distance (usually from tree tops, his preferred location in battle). At close range, he opts to use one of his hand-crafted spears. Extrasensory is a strategic move he uses to turn the tides of battle. The attack causes a mild headache that fills his opponent with doubt, causing them to flinch in hesitation; Oakley waits for this opportunity before closing in for attack. Bullet Seed is a weak attack typically used as a last resort, or to serve as a distraction to squeeze out of tight situations. Oakley learned this move from his father, who is a Cacturne.

When attacking is not necessary, Oakley opts to use stealth in the way of being heard but unseen. He plays his grass flute like many other Nuzleaf to create a sense of unease and fear in his enemies, though he can also use it to lull them to sleep. Oakley moves faster jumping from tree to tree than he does running on ground. His ability is Pickpocket which he uses to steal dangerous weapons off his opponent, similar to Knock Off. Oakley has night vision, but is still diurnal, as he needs sunlight to recharge his energy.
