This is a 1914 Clayton + Shuttleworth 'convertible' engine, so called because it could be fitted with the standard wheels as in the photos, or they could be swapped for a roller unit.
This 6nhp example is owned by the Shuttleworth Collection and is named 'Dorothy'. I love anything steam, and getting up close with this engine was awesome

There's just something about steam... Each different engine seems to have it's own language of groans, creaks and hisses
I'd rather see something 'in steam', i went to the train museum at York years ago and the locos there were just cold and lifeless...
I've got myself a couple of stationary engines (a Stuart 10H in need of major work, a scratchbuilt twin cylinder engine from Ebay that needs major work doing and a Gage TVR1A). Unfortunately my lack of a lathe and milling machine puts things on hold for any serious machining work >.<
