Onto the ramble!
The December Monthly Lore doodle is up so here is last months! its Mavõt social behavior and organization! And really they are perhaps the extreme oppossite of the Drekir
Whereas drekir are collectivist, polyamorous, aromantic and tend to make a lot of kids they only parent with a very light hand,
and whereas ormer are far more parentally focused, but still overall collectivist, if in a smaller group
Mavõtur are the extreme opposite, being hyper monogamists, with a lot more individualistic and romantic of a disposition
So lets talk about that
First lets talk about Mavõt nests
As mavõtur are hypermonogamists, They are beings that will fall in love once. Under the sivilão they are compelled to only form breeding pairs, though outside of sivilão society they do form a wider variety of couples. But if there is anything that is just about universal with them, is that they form pairs. The thing about mavõtur is that they are both very innately intellectual creatures, and very obsessive beings. They were built to fall in an intense love with really only one other mavõt
So Mavõt nests are pairs of two mavõtur and, if applicable, their offspring.
Likewise they tend to be rather isolationists. Content to discuss the world to their partner and, on occasion, other mavõtur. While not impossible for mavõtur to live amongst the hustle and bustle of drekir and ormer, they often find that life to fast and loud and tend to prefer to assist their sibling species from more reclusive places. As mavõtur can warp reality to a limited extent, and due to them being rather solitary, they often will adapt caves, mountains, or build small households in more isolated parts of a region. Since subsistence can be as simple as turning a tree into a giant nutrient bar, they tend to dedicate their time and energy more towards learning, discussion, caring for their partner and raising their young
And that love is unbreakable, but their love can break them
Mavõtur tend to form a bond with a lover during adolescence (around the 100-145 years old mark) And, once that happens, usually leave their parental nest to establish a new nest with their partner. They will almost always spend the rest of their lives with their lover, it is a love that is as caring and tender as it is focused and intense
But of course sometimes, or perhaps better said eventually, one must die before the other. Sadly, mavõtur tend to not handle that sort of death well. Be it their partner or their child. Often they will simply start withering away in the absence of the love of their centuries long life. These death spirals tend to happen in different ways, for some mavõtur its a quiet, sad death at the back of their cave. For others its a descent into a furious rampage against the world, each mavõt handles the grief of a dead loved one differently, depending on the individual and situation
And of course, Mavõtur often extend their care to their young
Mavõtur are perhaps the most intense parents in the DragonScape, even compared to the most obsessive, helicopter parent you can think of amongst the humans, they are even moreso. Often coddling and carefully bringing up their young over the course of a century. In that sense, mavõtur will only really have one kid at a time. And with mavõtur usually living upwards of 1000 years, 700 years on the earlier side, they tend to have only a handful of children over timescales that rival the rise and fall of empires
These tends to be something that, in adolescence, these mavõtur offspring will buck as they pursue the love of their life. Often something that is encouraged by their parents, who will accept the end of their upbringing and bring their child to socialize with other nests those mavõtur often socialize with
and as for social organization
This often happens on two simultaneous levels that are both rather distant. Overall mavõtur don't build villages or necessarily get too close to the tribal organization of their neighbors of other species. As I said, Mavõtur are often very isolationist in their perspective of outsiders, willing to help but absolutely wanting their distance from the hustle and bustle of their sibling species.
The most common networks mavõtur build is with other mavõtur
Usually over immense distances, as mavõtur are a vast minority, making up less than 1% of the whole éldimor population. Usually in entire planar there may only be a few thousand mavõtur, sometimes there are just barely enough to maintain a genetically diverse population. They are truly a rare folk. Frankly with how strange and unique their perspective of the world is, they often struggle to socialize with drekir or ormer, and so most will seek communication with the others across vast spaces. Often using their resonance to close those gaps (with great effort) just to talk as one nest to another
This usually happens infrequently, once every few months of time
But they do also work with and coordinate with the communities of drekir and ormer
Though whereas drekir and ormer are sewn in with eachother in complex tribal networks in the average society of dragons, Mavõtur are somewhat considered part of that same network, but are often more distant. Some may even consider them somewhat independent groups that the various clans around them may see as more of a neutral party. One not to mess with too much but, with shows of kindness and respect may return it in earnest.
So its common for local dens, clans, and tribes to aid mavõtur and vice versa in extreme situations. In times of war, famine, or climate collapse they often support eachother. Usually through the provision of resources to mavõtur that allow those mavõtur to focus their energy on their limited resonance to help in dealing with those causes
Likewise mavõtur, usually due to being detached politically from the surrounding cultures, are often seen as more neutral and are often turned to for practices related to the indifference.
Perhaps there has been a conflict between communities that needs an absolute arbiter that can separate the emotions from the facts and make a concrete judgement. Maybe the two warring drek dens may not agree with it, but its hard to argue that a mavõt is biased on some drek conflict.
They also often take on a role as historians, as they have the luxury of having a distant, but detailed eye on the events of the average region. And so often, thanks to their lives and memories lasting centuries, with their living memory being augmented by the stories of events told to them by their parents, Mavòtur are natural keepers of knowledge. Even in the Thalmvaric age, you can know something is truly ancient if not even the Mavõtur can recall anything about it, nor any stories that their parents had imparted on them
so yeah!
Mavõtur! Kinda the extreme opposite of the drekir. They are still welcome to the party, though are the sort of folk to keep with their partner, their kid, and play board games in the corner as opposed to doing kegs in the swimming pool
