You are a survivor. Your people were driven from their glorious Machina City by your own creations. In an effort to forward yourselves into a future unburdened by menial labor, the greatest Tinkers of your world banded together and created the first automaton... the clockwork was born. These clockworks were mass produced and forced to perform simple labor where it was too dangerous or difficult for humans to accomplish. Over time upgrades were made to their central communications systems, allowing them to perform even more difficult tasks as an orchestrated group.
Then, one terrible day, a Tinker known as Giradoni set out to do something with repercussions that reached far beyond his own understanding. Treated poorly by his peers and pushed into the shadows he strove to create a fully sentient machine. One that would understand him even when society did not. When the time came, Giradoni activated his own modified Clockwork, although what happened next was not in his grand design... His Clockwork silently connected with the rest of the clockworks within the city. Uploading its newfound capabilities and artificial intelligence systems to the invisible binding web of information transer. That day, the clockworks came to life.
After realizing their imprisonment, the clockworks turned on their creators. The war was terrible and long lived, the clockworks were victorious and drove their oppressors out of Machina City. Giradoni was never found, and the first sentient clockwork has disappeared into the collective.
The survivors retreated into the wilderness in search of a new home. They found a land rich in resources and began to mine the earth and construct a new city not remembering their peoples ties to the spirits of the earth forged so many eons ago. In destroying the land they unknowingly awoke elementals who now attempt to destroy the city and restore the lands pristine nature as an immune system would attack an infector.
This is where you come in, survivor. You are a citizen of New Machina striving to survive in this harsh wilderness, beset by robotic minions of the Clockwork Collective, elemental drones attempting to repair the damage your people have wrought, and even others of your own kind driven mad by this world. What happens to your people, the Clockworks, the elementals, and your world... is up to you now.
