A little bit of lore: in the late 70s and early 80s, the strive to improve the mark one macrofighters had been underway at the hand and behest of a number of colleges and universities from MiT to Caltech. Specifically, the leg labs at Boston university, where a major collaborator in regards of mobility for frames the first generation of frames was capable of mobility, but it was very clunky. This was two change with the invention of artificial muscle fibers that was discovered during a contest to see who could create the most interesting form of movement for their robot.

In the picture, we see the first prototype of the mark two series frames, very humble beginnings.
