Page 20! The gravity cannon was successful but it also wasn't as the rider of death apparently can't be slain unless it wants to be. That is a pain in the ass! Does that mean they lose? According to death himself it does not but we find out what it really means in the next page.

Oh they definitely won, and definitely lost at the same time. Death knows how this game is played: if he lets them live today then he can always come and reap them later, and if by sparing them they happen to send a few extra souls his way before he comes back for them then he gets a greater harvest. Whatever happens, he sure won't walk away from this empty handed.
I love when Death is portrayed as a dark force but not exactly evil, more like a cold entity, devoid of feelings and above morality, but not without some sense of honor and fair play ... this rider is definitely the strongest of all but he behaved honorably, admitting his defeat and leaving Zodiac's dimension.
This indicate that he holds no interest neither for the victory of his fellow riders and demon brethrens or for the victory of Zodiac... he is merely playing his role...
