I've always thought that if only the original show had the budget and the really top quality costume/fursuit makers, they could have occasionally had anthro type aliens as crew members or part of starfleet and really enhanced the viewer interest.

You're probably right. After all, one of the most memorable characters from the animated series was/is an anthro feline.

I thought of it when I saw a TOS episode "Journey to Babel" which had pig-faced characters with actors wearing the most ill-fitting pig masks, and I couldn't help thinking, "Furries could so so much better than that!," and thought of the Clockwork Creations suits of the prince and general in "Bitter Lake" and how they would have made fantastic background characters as diplomats in that episode.

You're right. I had forgotten about that episode. And you're right about those ill-fitting masks. But, I'm not really surprised. NBC hated ST: TOS with a passion. Gene Roddenberry had pitched the show as a "Wagon Train in space" show and you know how executives can be when they realize they've been deceived.

This series would make an awesome calendar
