What if the mage was turned into a woman through some MAGIC ACCIDENT. HEY WHAT IF he was one in magical disguise all along???
Another thing I seem to like to do is take characters and put them in the normal world and see how they would fare without magic and shit, with or without memories of what they were before. And I always give them boring jobs, like as an accountant.
I hate my imagination ;o hey, what do you guys tend to mess with your characters with?

these are usually hosted on DA. bunch of people get together, draw comics of their characters duking it out. lots of opportunity for alternate universe situations to put your characters into. also good comic practice.

"What if" is my favourite way of thinking. >_> I don't usually come up with too many weird things to lose track though, and I rarely do anything more than a drawing or few about the spin-offs. Most often I just think about it and forget it.
If the new idea turns out to be good, I try to make new characters and stories out of it. That may be why I have a lot of characters that are similar...
