Urfek, Aarakocra Oath of the Crown Paladin
Art done by my soulmate
Spirit.Wolf.
Urfek was originally a temporary character for my first-ever D&D campaign, where he died sacrificing himself to rescue my main PC from the BBEG. Recently, however, I had him cameo in my Aetherlands campaign, which takes place in a world of floating continents. The players like him well enough, so I decided to keep him as a prominent NPC. Levi then updated the art I had of him, this is the result!
This is the original backstory I wrote for him back in January 2021!
Urfek hails from a series of floating islands above the clouds just a few miles off the coast, which forms the collective nation of Arkymedian. Non-Aakracoran visitors are rare and those who do visit often travel to Arkymedian by airship if not by spell. Arkymedian is dominated by glistening towers of ivory and moonstone, rolling gardens filled with flowers of all colors, and large brooks and streams from overflowing ponds and lakes that spill off the edges of the islands down into the sea below.
Orphaned as a hatchling, Urfek was adopted by a priestess at the Temple of Syranita on the Arkymedian isle of Syratania, so named for Syranita. The priestess, named Ikikri, was a tender and motherly soul who not only taught young Urfek of their patron deity but also educated him on the world and other things.
As he grew, his so did his love for Ikikri and his devotion to the faith of his temple, to the point where he wanted to become a Syranitan Vanguard; a warrior monk imbued with Syranita's divine magic. As such he would be tasked with guarding the Temple and all within, from the priests and priestesses to sacred texts and artifacts.
Urfek had just been named Grandmaster of the Vanguard during his 11th summer when a sinister, secretive cabal of elven spellcasters calling themselves Arlathan's Eye performed a heist upon the Temple and stole their most precious artifact, The Ivory Feather of Syranita.
Knocked unconscious during the raid, he awoke to find most of his men as well as the priests and priestesses dead, including Ikikri. Kneeling before a scarred Temple, Urfek entered a small period of self-loathing for his failure before divine comfort soothed his broken heart.
He then made it his lifelong mission to recover the Ivory Feather and bring the members of Arlathan's Eye to justice.
