Surge and Kitsunami, finding themselves stuck at such a low power level compared to Sonic and his friends, decide on their own to use the power of a “Chaos Emerald” (which would have a strange appearance) and Dr Starline's power crystal to increase their power, but ineptitude and impatience are not a very compatible mix in a compromised place.

Despite Kit's explanations to Surge, when trying to understand the integral calculations of each power source, Surge was not willing to listen, much less wait, so in a fit of rage she sabotages the energy device that Kitsunami used to absorb the energy of both devices.
