It wouldn't be out of mischief or malice and I suspect Peer might also have gotten told off in the past for leaving chewbones lying discarded on the floor, so just thinking to be tidy. Likely he does mean to remember not to do so when he's gotten told about it but he just forgets, not meaning any trouble just a little careless or absent minded and maybe even just a slight hint of a jinx around him. He's got the scruffy charm and the loveable slight goofiness that I suspect even Geri might not be able to remain angry with him for long even if he does get exasperated.
