Dusk's Rest.
Despite his aching paws and searing calves, the Otter’s steps were brisk. Recounting the week’s events, his chest filled with a heavy and searing rage. His mind raced to find explanation in the chaos of often conflicting scenarios. The desperate search for resolve was aimless.
The sudden sensation of loose mud beneath his paw interrupted his mind and motion. With snarling teeth and whipping tail, the rage immediately rebuffed. Kicking off the mud from his sodden paw while shouting, the Otter continued his warpath past the closed market stalls. Only the occasional dreary townsfolk member bothered to check the commotion. Haphazardly he began to de-buckle his vambraces & chest plate.
The last of the silhouetted forms of partially netted market stalls fell past the Otter. From the dim and claustrophobic path between buildings, he now stood on a wooden pier open to an uninterrupted horizon and sky. There, almost directly in-line with the pier, sat a bright solitary star. Its brash and unapologetic appearance was pinned sharply against the fading scarlet and violet sky. With loosening fists and drooping tail, he sat on the edge of the uneven wooden pier.
With his sight fixated on the star, his mind began to empty. Slowly the burning embers of the week distinguished. The sound of his surroundings returned - gentle waves over pebble shore, distant rowdy cheers from the nearby tavin. The loudest of which he recognised with a smirk. That damn wolf couldn’t keep his muzzle closed at the best of times. Returning his attention back to the star, the Otter began to make plans for the night. The start of a new week, the Otter exhaled.
