Original Species: Swamp Gworp and Dire Swan
The marshlands of Vogelheim are home to some interesting and terrifying birds.
Among the interesting ones is the Swamp Gworp: a member of one of the most widespread groups of birds on the continent. Its long legs and massive stature allow it to wade in the swampy water for tasty water plants. Scholars theorize that it is a recent evolutionary offshoot from the more common gworps, as its beak is still transitioning from a huge, thick tool for cracking seeds into something more suitable for soft water weeds. Its brownish-green coloration allows it quite effectively to hide among the reeds it inhabits.
On the more terrifying spectrum, we have the Vogelheim Dire Swan. This bird is very aggressive and territorial. It will chase down anything it perceives as an intruder and relentlessly bite at it. It is much like an Earth swan but turned up to 11.
Still, when not busy chasing off unwanted company, the Dire Swan can show a more peaceful side. When left alone, this bird moves gracefully through the shallow waters of the swamp and feeds on soft underwater plants. Males and females mate for life and are devoted parents who will stop at nothing to protect their chicks (which goes back to their aggressive nature).
The scene above may be classified as "a moment before disaster". Aisha is busy observing the Swamp Gworp and is unaware of the encroaching swans (were she aware of them, she'd be far less relaxed)
