The Siigonis are an ancient and adaptable race of lizardfolk known for their deep connection to their environment and clan-oriented society. Each Siigonis belongs to one of five clans, with loyalty and unity forming the backbone of their culture. Proud, resourceful, and bound to their deities, the Siigonis thrive in harmony with their surroundings while mastering crafts, combat, and the mysteries of nature.
Siigonis value community and loyalty above all else. They take pride in their clan identity, seeing themselves as an extension of their group rather than as individuals. Their personalities often reflect their clan’s values: the Moon Clan is reserved and introspective; the Flame Clan is bold and decisive; the Forest Clan is practical and traditional; the Water Clan is curious and open-minded; and the Sun Clan is patient and protective. Siigonis are pragmatic, with a strong respect for balance, whether in nature, relationships, or conflict.
They are reptillian humanoids with vibrant, scaly skin that matches their clan colors, ranging from deep purples and fiery reds to natural greens and shimmering blues. They stand between 5 and 6 ½ feet tall, with lean, muscular builds. Frills adorn their heads and necks, used for communication and intimidation; these are often painted or adorned with clan symbols. Their tails, which can be as long as their bodies, are powerful and aid in balance and combat.
Clothing varies by clan and climate:
Moon Clan: Shadowy robes or muted leathers to aid stealth and blend with their surroundings.
Forest Clan: Practical, earth-toned garments woven from natural fibers and adorned with leaves or beads.
Flame Clan: Functional armor and brightly dyed tunics, often accented with flames or metallic ornamentation.
Water Clan: Flowing fabrics in blues and teals, designed to wick water or reflect their aquatic affinity.
Sun Clan: Light, radiant robes or ceremonial garb decorated with sun motifs and intricate embroidery.
Relations:
They are cautious but not hostile toward outsiders. Clans like the Water Clan actively engage with other races, while the Forest and Flame Clans can be more insular. They respect those who live in harmony with nature or demonstrate mastery in their crafts. The Siigonis are willing to work with others when mutual benefit is clear, but they have little patience for those who disrupt the balance of their lands.
Alignment:
The Siigonis tend toward neutrality, reflecting their desire for balance and practicality. Individuals within the clans vary: Moon Clan Siigonis are often neutral, Flame Clan members lean lawful, and Water Clan Siigonis favor good.
Lands:
The Siigonis inhabit vast territories divided among their clans. Swamps, forests, arid plains, and river deltas serve as their homes, with each clan adapting to their environment. They maintain communal nurseries for their eggs and hatchlings, ensuring that every Siigonis has the support of the entire community.
Religion:
Siigonis spirituality is clan-centered, with each group venerating gods that reflect their values. The Moon Clan worships Sartren, goddess of the moon and stars. The Forest Clan honors Nutambar, god of forests and beasts. The Flame Clan pays homage to Fureen, goddess of the sun and harvest. Gizeiten, goddess of the oceans, and other deities also hold sway in specific regions. Their rituals are as diverse as their gods, ranging from solemn meditations to vibrant festivals.
Adventurers:
Siigonis adventurers often set out to protect their clan’s interests, learn from the wider world, or fulfill a personal calling. Rogues and druids are common among the Moon and Forest Clans, while the Flame Clan produces many fighters and smiths. Water Clan adventurers may become wizards or bards, and Sun Clan members often pursue life as clerics or paladins.
I actually write a fantasy series if you don't know, it's called Scales and Honor. It follows the adventure of a red dragon Veledar, seeking to retrieve his stolen treasure by a nearby kingdom of sapient gryphons and humans. It will see him capture the knight sent to capture him, and beset against numerous challenges that will test his courage, strength and pride. Maybe he might even learn a thing or two about teamwork and romance by the end.
