Grab some bananas and blast through those barrels, because today marks the 30th anniversary of 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗞𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬!
Did You Know...
The Kremlings had origins outside of 'Donkey Kong', they were originally made for a different game at the same time but Rare later repurposed them, as they seemed to fit perfectly.
Diddy Kong was added as a virtual lifebar and having the player not feel alone on his adventure. His design was based on a UK tea commercial known as PG Tips, where chimps are wearing human clothes.
The track 'Aquatic Ambience' had trouble being implemented and might not have made it in the game. David Wise was experimenting with maximize use of the Super Nintendo's limited amount of ram and ran into multiple issues. The track was reprogrammed several times over the course of 5 weeks, but was worth all of the effort.
On a personal note, this is probably my favorite SNES platformers next to some other classics. Originally for this piece I wanted to include Klump and Krusha but after looking it over, it would've been too cluttered (but I do plan on drawing those two eventually). This also marks the very first official time that I drew both DK and Diddy, not to mention it's been a while since I drew K. Rool and am pleased with the results. Some of my favorite tracks in the game are Cave Dweller Concert, Mine Cart Madness, Life in the Mines and Ice Cave Chant.
On a side note, My Birthday is next week...🥳🎉🎈
