Wew...this is the start of a lot of posts. Which is why it took so long to get around to the public release. I like to give context, and that can go on for a bit, and then spread that across art I can't post in a bundle and it's like...it takes hours for clerical work when I'd rather be drawing....still, it must be done. But I'll try to keep it brief for most of these sketches.
We're moving on to a new D&D campaign with my group, set about fifty years after the previous events of the last one. (It's set in a retro future 1950s) The catch for it was we all had to be descendants of the prior characters in some way. So I created 'Lucius Haskell Gary', the grandson of Dolly and Rowan Howell from my first campaign. His original concepts was pulled from an incomplete sketch of a possible Dawn and Vernon Grandson for my Zootopia stuff, and I refined him here. I was going for a 'Krampus kinda look to him. Horns, teeth and hooves. And I had to inject goat DNA to make the species skew and the very robust horns be a more likely outcome that had I used this same design for a Hunter 3rd generation hybrid, because my plan for Paige would be she tithes a wolf like her mother did.
Quick run down, Lucius is grumpy, sleep deprived, and addicted to coffee and cigarettes like any good 50s man. He's also a man of high education, being well versed in the study of criminal investigation, and old magic and how it could fit in to 'unusual' and unsolved crimes. As a contrast he's got terrible social intelligence, but that doesn't bother him all that much. He grew up an introvert, with a kind but dramatic mother, and a well meaning father with a big heart, literally and figuratively. His mother and fathers constant doting over one another in public was a huge embarrassment for him. What made it worse was his mother's minor celebrity status as a singer and commercial model. It's not the only reason he wasn't very social as a kid, but it did contribute to it. The other factor was just his nature. He sees himself as an island, and anyone else will simply slow him down. But it does affect how he reads people, and thus is a detriment to his overall detective skill. Currently he works as a clerk at the local PD, left largely to filing and analyzing hard case facts. Although ideally he wants to start his own private detective agency, and make good on his Grandpa's legacy.
Despite his adamant insistence that he works best alone, there is a feeling deep within him that he can't put a hoofnail on, one that keeps him up most nights, unable to sleep. It's the one puzzle he still just can't crack.
More... and I mean a lot more concept art things to come from this series. Myself and my DM started creatively encouraging eachother and before we knew better we had a small novella constructed.
