“Andy Dershon...” an artificial voice, feminine in pitch and tone, calmly narrated.
Heart pounding out of his chest, and forcing down a nervous swallow, the orange furred fox could feel his vision beginning to blur. Intrusive thoughts flooded to the forefront as he awaited the Helperbot's judgment. All the background checks. All that studying. All that training. All that anxiety it... it had to have meant something! He had tried so hard, and for so long, to earn this!
“...The Commonwealth is proud to extend to you a formal invitation of employment!” the spherical robot happily decreed. Twirling about in the air, its pixelated eyes positively beaming while its feline approximation of a mouth curled up into a smile, the Helperbot's pitch rose to a cheery tin. “With the expiration of your probation period the Quality Assurance Department is excited to welcome you onboard as a full-time employee!”
Andy swallowed down a muffled and triumphant scream as he valiantly fought the urge to pass out on the spot.
“Please report back tomorrow for your first assignment!” the Helperbot chirped from behind its desk. “Details will be delivered to you shortly!” With a lazy midair somersault the spherical robot cheerily dismissed the flustered fox.
BWOOP
Brown tipped ears perking to attention, Andy looked to body-borne computer wrapped around his wrist. A triumvirate of interlocking gears, the insignia of the Commonwealth, whirred to life as his otherwise empty calendar filled out years in advance.
Tail wig wagging gently behind him, his cheeks straining from the size of his smile, Andy pat at his chest and made his way out of the sterile white lobby. He'd done it. He'd really done it! With the assurance of the most stable employment the whole of Sol had to offer his life was on a glide path from here on forward! Shuffling out of a nondescript office building, its stout and rounded rectangular frame unassumingly tucked away between rows of public housing, the fox winced when he stepped out into Nouvo Carolina's suffocating humidity and heat.
The computer wrapped around his wrist adjusted its visibility and intensity automatically as it, of its own accord, displayed tomorrow's to-dos.
TASK: YEARLY MAINTENANCE – EARTH-SHAKER FLEET
BIOME: MARINE
CALLSIGN: TAU
TEAM: QUALITY ASSURANCE
ASSIGNEE: ANDY DERSHON
START: 06:00:00
Head cocked side to side, Andy hummed while a stifling salt stained breeze whisked past. “Earth-Shaker Tau?” he hummed to himself. He was familiar with the Earth-Shakers, larger than life Synths who towered hundreds of feet tall and who tirelessly dedicated themselves to reclaiming and repairing the planet, but he had yet to pair names err callsigns to faces.
BZZZZZZZZT
Blink blinking the fox worriedly watched as beads of static bubbled across his wearable computer.
To Andy's disbelief the static roiling across his wrist, lapping and crashing against one another likes waves tipped with caps of white noise, intensified. His heart sank, and tail drooped, at the thought he had somehow someway already managed to make a mess of things. T-t-this was a standard issue model handed out to any and every citizen of the Commonwealth! Surely it was up to the task!
Whining to himself stepped off the sidewalk and into the shade of a palm tree. As its fronds rustled overhead he frantically tapped and typed away on the monitor. Ripples coursed across the liquid crystal display as the static recoiled away from his very touch.
FWISHHHHHHH
Along from that of an unknown other. Lips pulled flat, Andy leaned in close while the digital waves slowly parted. A serpentine, if not metallic, visage rose from the depths.
“UHHHHH.” Cheeks puffed out, Andy frantically slapped at the side of his computer to try and force a shutdown.
With a shake shake of its head, pointed metallic antennae fashioned into ears twitching to attention, the likeness of a Synth's head popped up on screen. Distinctly feminine eyes, striking blue against her chrome skull and face plate, curiously regarded the readouts coming into focus while the waves of static receded.
"How's it hanging newbie?” crackled a voice over the speakers.
Andy frantically continued to cycle through a shutdown.
“Knock that off!” sassed the Synth. Nudging her head against the side of the screen she nosed away the menus and navbars trying, and failing, to spool out.
A pronounced whirr sounded out as the body-borne computer's cameras flicked on of their own accord. Up and down the Synth's pixelated eyes wandered over the fox's form as her gaze synchronized up with the built in lenses. “You're Andy. Yeah?” she asked.
Jaw hanging slack, Andy could but dumbly uhhh at length.
With a roll of her eyes, and a snort, the Synth chomped at the open air and pulled up Andy's assignment from the void.
ASSIGNEE: ANDY DERSHON.
“This is you? Isn't it?” she ahemhemed in irritation.
“I. I mean. Yes?” he uncertainly answered. “And you are?”
“Who do you think?” she giggled.
Stammering and tongue tied, Andy continued to find himself at a loss.
“Look. Here's a hint!” teased the digitally conjured devil. Smudging her snout against the screen's interior, the liquid crystals straining and losing their color at her tough, she dragged her face up along the screen to force it to scroll.
CALLSIGN: TAU
“Uhh. Duhhh. ...Miss Tau?” Andy uneasily answered.
“It's Tera! Or Tau, I guess, if you wanna be all snobby and formal about it,” she raspberried. Leaning in close, so much so that a lone sapphire eye came to obscure the whole of the screen, Tera's all seeing peeper came to encompass the whole of Andy's wrist. Its pixelated and rectangular black pupil swished to and fro along his forearm as it drank in the very sight of him. “So! You're my new technician?”
“I am?”
"You are!" she eeheed. A blink blink of her all encompassing eye, followed by a pronounced and dragged out hum, echoed over the computer's speakers.
Lips pulled flat, Andy's eyes drifted anywhere save Tera's own as his unknown assignment sized him up.
“What?” she teased with a chuckle and smack of her lips. “Never worked with a Synth before?”
“I-I-I have!” the fox defensively protested. “I just. It's just. Most of them tend to conduct and carry themselves as people and not uh... err... programs.”
Andy instinctively recoiled from Tera, arm held out before him, as she rudely pbbted. He half expected a spray of static to wash over him while she did so.
“Loosen up will ya!” she scoffed. “You got the job didn't you? It's all but impossible to lose it now!”
“I-I-I haven't even started yet!” Andy whined.
“Details, details...” Tera pshed.
Tail wrapped around his waist, Andy nonetheless found himself drawn into Tera's near gravitational pull.
“Since I'm already heeeeere,” whistled the Synth. “Let's get the icebreakers outta the way!”
“We're not coworkers yet!” incredulously answered the fox. Idling along the sidewalks, Andy shuffled past seawalls pocked with murals and graffiti. At any time he could have simply turned off his computer. Or opted to ignore her. Yet he struggled to tear himself away from the sassy Synth.
“You always this anxious?” Tera snarked. “The job's yours! Act like it!”
“Pff.” Her personality, larger than life, kept him roped him even for all his hesitation. Blissfully ignorant to the smile slowly creeping up along his face Andy continued to indulge her as he slowly shuffled home.
The croon of seagulls and the distant roar of waves registered in Andy's ears as he stumbled out of his apartment building. Eyes bleary, and crusted with sleep, he cast his gaze towards the twilit horizon. Eyes swiveling along the bottoms of his sockets he hoped against hope he was dressed appropriately. His brown furred gloves pat against the pockets of his khaki pants. Rolling his shoulders he frantically brushed out the faintest wrinkles in his collared polo shirt.
BZZZT
Arcs of static undulated along the rails built into the roads before him. The Commonwealth light rail, quiet as could be, seamlessly slowed to a stop. With a soothing chime its double doors slid open. As Andy stepped inside the car gently rocked side to side.
VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Tears beading along his eyes Andy clasped at a handrail. Mmff. Staring past his own reflection he sleepily snuck glances at his fellow passengers as the light rail shuddered to a start. A handful of half-asleep organics, much like himself, mingled with the far more populous Synths. Sporting wildly different reptilian makes and models their face plates and LED eyes, spanning the gamut of the color wheel, cast the car in a warm and welcome glow.
Hum. He couldn't help but wonder if Tera's billboard sized eyes would be just as welcoming and warm in person. Squeezing at the hand rail his eyes lit up as he looked out the windows to the horizon. Pale streaks of pink and orange danced along the boundary where the sea met the sky. The ocean, smooth as glass, practically burst alive with flame as the angular but gently rounded silhouettes of enormous warehouses flanking the shoreline came into view. Each and every one of them, encompassing multiple city blocks, were daunting in size.
BIOME – GRASSLAND
BIOME – FOREST
Andy's ears perked up as he read the gargantuan lettering, stylized and easy on the eyes, that demarcated what part of the planet they were dedicated to restoring and repairing. His breast swelled with pride at the recognition, the realization, that he himself was now a part of the Commonwealth's great work.
Rolling his shoulders, and heart racing, Andy he held his body-borne computer towards one of the many sensors lining the light rail's doors. With a satisfying ding it registered his request and proof of employment before queuing his suggested stop.
VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
With a hiss the light rail dawdled to a stop. Stepping off the vehicle, a blast of salt and sand filling his nostrils, the orange furred fox picked up his pace to a light jog. Upon approach the sea walls slid open to reveal a winding series of boardwalks. Clonking across them, the sand dunes flanking him covered in newly planted sea grasses, he excitedly bounds towards the utterly imposing structure towering before him.
BIOME – MARINE
“Woahhh...” Snout smudged against the glass, Andy watched as what felt like a contained city unfurled before him.
Rising steadily higher and higher within the elevator he watched as but one of the Commonwealth's most prestigious research labs stretched out before him. Wave tanks. Water tunnels. Self-contained kelp gardens. Coral greenhouses. Global fish farms. He couldn't even begin to describe, much less name, what all this place contained.
DING
Stepping off the elevator, stomach rising into his throat at the vertigo inducing view, Andy couldn't help but continue to nervously gawk even as his wearable computer calmly guided him through the facility. Moseying along a catwalk, his credentials affording him access to floors far beyond the purview of the research staff living on site, Andy let his hands brush along the rails as he curiously ambled towards a veritable slab of steel and what he presumed to be the outer wall of the structure. Upon approach it lit up like the night sky, countless embedded sensors twinkling like stars, as the nanites within fizzled away to reveal a security door.
“Where are youuuuuuuuuuuu?” Tera's voice impatiently crackled over his speakers.
“You're acting like I'm late!” Andy pouted. Lips scrunched he approached the security door while Tera acked and her voice was drowned out by that of Helperbot's. Interlocking gears whirred alive upon the curved monitor wrapped around his wrist as the entrance to the zealously guarded Earth-Shaker wing acquiesced and opened in recognition of his credentials.
Stepping forth, the nanite infused wall reconstituting itself to slam shut behind him, Andy looked on wide eyed at the utterly enormous warehouse stretching out beyond the periphery of his vision.
THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
And the impossibly massive Synth that filled it.
“About time you showed up,” Tera's voice eeheed as her body proper mutely cocked its head to the side and flashed a smile. Even while sitting, and leaning back into a labyrinth of scaffolding, her sheer size boggled the mind.
Head tilted back, and jaw agape, Andy had to remind himself he was on the...
He peered at computer and swallowed hard at the recognition he was traversing what ought to have been the 15th floor. The fox was this many stories up and he still barely reached her waist. While she was lounging.
Tera was akin to a living landscape.
“Welllllllllll?” the Synth chirped over his computer's speakers. Her static laced voiced, massaging at his wrist, carried with it a teasing lilt. Her digital avatar, cast across the air, cartoonishly bobbed its head to and fro as it motioned for him to move it along. “I ain't got all day!”
“I'm coming, I'm coming!” Andy acked as his mind reeled at the disparities that defined her. Staring down at his arm her palm sized visage playfully blepped at him... all while her skyscraper shaming true self casually overflowed his very perception.
“You know...” Tera trailed off as her likeness' cheeks shifted in shading so as to mimic the appearance of puffing them out. “You're lucky you got someone as laid back as me for your first tuneup!”
Right arm swinging at his side, and left arm held up before him, Andy wheezed as the gap between himself and Tera refused to narrow. It was like trying to meet the horizon. No matter how far he ran she never drew any closer. “Why's... why's that?” he panted.
“You ever met Mael? Much less Oberon?” With a roll of her pixelated eyes Tera drew out an exaggerated exhale as she grimaced at the thought of her fellow aquatic oriented Earth-Shakers. Poorly pixelated approximations of her colossal coworkers faces, one sporting artificial fins and the other sporting a slender and vaguely mammalian face plate, popped up alongside her. Wrinkling her snout she dismissively stuck her tongue out at them. “It's like talking to a fire wall.”
“I'll take your word for it...” Andy gulped as the catwalks finally drew near Tera's thick forearms. Hazard tape, wider than any interstate, stretched across her limbs. From her wrists to her jointed elbows, where blinding orange strobe lights jutted out, it contrasted sharply against the soothing eggshell white plating wrapped around her literal mountains of artificial muscle.
Lord. Her fingertips alone rivaled his apartment unit in size. “Just remember your training. Remember your training. Remember your training...” the fox repeated to himself ad nauseam as he approached.
“I-i-initiating Safe Mode!” he called out to Tera. Fingers tip tapping at his monitor, the Synth's visage scooching off to the side to allow him unfettered access as she bobbed and weaved out of the way of menus and pop ups, low and bone rattling gurgles sounded out from her enormous body.
>HAPTIC FEEDBACK ENABLED
The hard plastic and polymer shell surrounding her body like armored skin bubbled as it turned soft and pliant.
>ARTIFICAL MUSCLE RELAXANT ENGAGED
Tera's shoulders casually began to sag and droop as her every muscle, be it consciously or unconsciously tensed, relaxed. The pressure inflicted by the faintest pinch of her folds of synthetic flesh would be enough to crush or kill with horrifying ease as was constantly reiterated to Andy over the course of his training. Tail swishing anxiously behind him he watched as a timer counted down and...
BWOOOOMPH
The Earth-Shaker's muscular form visibly fattened out. Stomach spilling across her thighs, her abdominals losing all definition and melting into the most massive of muffintops, Tera hummed as her body became doughy and harmless to the touch.
A profuse blush enveloped the whole of Andy's head at the sight. H-h-he understood the theory and rationale behind Safe Mode but... never had he ever imagined how pleasantly it would play out in practice.
Eyes half-lidded, and sporting a devious smile, Tera's digital likeness smirked as she shamelessly peeked the internals feeding into Andy's wearable computer. “Something wrong, Andy? Your body temperature and heart rate shot up something fierce...” she cooed.
“H-hwuh?!” Stammering up a storm, Andy wilted as Tera's digital and real selves simultaneously arched their brows at him.
“I'm sure it's nothing,” the Earth-Shaker eeheed.
Biting down into his lower lip, and chin tucked against his chest, Andy sheepishly mumble grumbled as he warily eyed the countdown on his wrist monitor. Just a few minutes more and it would be deemed safe to explore and perform diagnostics on Tera's thickening frame.
…
…
…
The wait was interminable. Eyes nervously darting back and forth between his readout and Tera's bloating body he swallowed down a pitiful whine at the sight of her swollen neck, once dense with muscle, growing soft and flabby. Her face plate gently sank into its folds while her breasts, admittedly a purely cosmetic addition to her female designated frame, spilled wide across her near spherical gut. To say nothing of her city block smothering thighs spilling across the warehouse floor like a flood of flab.
He tried so hard to draw his attention anywhere else. Not to the waves of fat lazily rolling across her shoulders and stomach. Not to the Olympic pool sized indentation in her gut that was her bellybutton. He definitely didn't ponder, didn't fantasize, about diving over the catwalks and onto her gurgling gut. Never would he ever imagine ripples of fat cascading out from beneath him on impact as he sank into a sea of soft and supple flesh that would mold around and embrace him.
BING
“L-l-let's get started shall we!” Andy all but shouted once his readouts gave him the all clear. Tera's true titanic self, eyes narrowed into a self-assured grin, lazily beckoned him with swish of her head as the catwalks whirred to life and walkways extended out towards her.
Cheeks burning bright all the while the fox slowly but surely investigated every square inch of the massive marvel of science that was an Earth-Shaker unit. Her polymer plating, the envy of any and all seafarers, was built to withstand tidal surges and rogue waves with ease. Tera's thunderous thighs were in and of themselves wavebreakers without parallel that allowed her to effortlessly wade the ocean depths. Her pneumatic joints and artificial limbs were the closest thing to rust-proof the Commonwealth's researchers could fathom. Day in and day out they weathered the open seas with next to nothing to show for wear and tear or degradation.
A dreamy sigh wafted out from Andy's lips. On and on and on the fox could gush and about the technology behind these Synths as his finely trained eyes documented the most minute of imperfections pocking her frame. Given the time and effort required to even create much less nurture such a Synth to such a size, much less how critically important their work to geoengineer the very planet was, he was all too proud to do his part to see their nigh religiously enforced repair and maintenance efforts carried out. The hours simply flew by as the catwalks raised and lowered themselves in accordance with his diagnostics all the while he bantered and playfully bickered with Tera.
“That... looks to be everything!” Andy beamed with a swish of his tail. Whatever lingering anxiety and trepidation he had carried with him into the structure had melted away over the course of the day. “Looks like a clean bill of health to me!”
Tera's digital visage, her chin resting on the compiled readouts on Andy's wrist, pouted. “What? Done already?”
“Mmhmm!” With a bashful blush he cycled through his post-diagnostic checklist. “Now then! Let's see about getting you back up and running and out of Safe Mode...”
BWOOMP
Raised carats appeared over Tera's eyes as her digital likeness chomped down on the popups Andy was dutifully attempting to click through. “You sure that's what you want?” she mumbled between mouthfuls as pixels sprayed out from the sides of her metallic maw.
Shoulders bunched together, Andy whined as he side-eyed Tera's corpulent and pleasantly plush frame. He wouldn't deny it had been... enjoyable. Exploring her immense and shapely self. “I-I-I mean. What else is there to say? My job here is done and-”
“C'monnnnnnnnnn,” teased the Synth. “A little overtime never hurt nobody. Besides!” she cooed. “I'm sure there's some curves -- I mean components you wouldn't mind double and triple checking...”
“B-b-be that as it may!” Andy coughed as his fur puffed out. “I wouldn't want the Commonwealth to think I'm dragging my feet!”
“Pbbbbt. You worry too much!” Tera taunted as she chomped clean through the Safe Mode disengagement popup. “What's a few hours more between-”
BZZZZZZZZZT
“-Friends?” The Synth worriedly regarded the cacophony of warnings flooding Andy's wrist wrapped monitor in response.

“...Uh oh,” Tera meekly mumbled as her digital likeness was crowded out by popups.
GLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORP
Her body proper, lips pulled flat and eyes gone wide, violently rumbled as commands to be as safe and soft and nonthreatening as possible overflowed her frame.
“Now might be a good time to-” Tera's avatar meekly mumbled as her snout just barely managed to peek past scrunched up windows.
BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMPH
Face plate swallowed up by mounds of muscle turned marshmallow, the Earth-Shaker lived up to her namesake as her fat ass, thighs, stomach, and breasts billowed out from her in a tidal surge of flab.
With a shriek Andy turned to run only for the catwalks to be bowled away by Tera's luxuriously soft folds of artificial fat. Struggling to tread the flabalanche, her flesh intuitively reshaping and molding itself at his touch so as to never smother or suffocate him, Andy found himself bounced up to the surface. Flesh swallowing him up to his knees, nearly trapped in place by her plush, he watched on wide eyed as her blubbery form crashed against the far sides of the warehouse and splashed up against the walls.
Ripples, literal waves traveling at the speed of fat, knocked Andy aside and sent him harmlessly bouncing across her curves all while a mortified Tera wibbled and wobbled as she came to fill the whole of the sealed off structure. Frantically clicking at his terminal even as he tumbled head over heels Andy forced a safe mode shutdown and system rebuild while the ceiling drew dangerously close.
BZZZZZZZZT
To his, and Tera's relief, her sudden surge screeched to a halt. Flopping forward tiredly, and peering past the cavernous gap spanning her nigh mountainous cleavage, Andy sighed at Tera's tiny face plate struggling to peer down at him. “...You know I'm going to have to write this up. Right?”
“Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,” Tera whined as she wobbled in place.
Lips pursed, and tail wig wagging shyly behind him, Andy sheepishly scritched at his cheek. “It's not... all bad though I suppose,” he mumbled. “They're going to have patch out this Safe Mode error after all.”
“Annnnnd someone will have to put me back through my paces,” Tera teased.
“Someone like... me?” Andy huffed with a hopeful lilt.
“Well who else?” Tera giggled.
