[STORY] Voyage of the Firefly - Chapter 1

After several minutes of trying to get my .doc version to work, and being unable to turn it into a .pdf format, I decided "Screw it!" and turned it into a Rich Text File (.rtf) so I could submit this. The following file contains both the prologue AND chapter 1 of my story, colored and prettyful for your entertainment. If blues and greens hurt your eyes, just look at it through black font. The only reason I made the text colorful is to make it easier to discern dialogue from narrative text. Also, if there are any issues with being able to download and/or read this story, please let me know. I want to make this readable to any and all who see this... Now, for the disclaimer again!

Heh heh. That was just my buddy joking around regarding the Star Fox stuff. And...yeah, I admit, some TNG played fairly deeply into the inspiration basis behind it, but I want it to reflect more than just that.
Also, you're quite welcome for the links. I've seen other artists do it, and figured it'd make things easier for others reading. Hope you liked the story so far. :3

Hm, interesting. The themes remind me of Star Trek with a small hint of Battlestar Galactica. It's good, and I'll have to try to remember to check our more of the stories when I'm home and have the time. Remembering is probably going to be the least likely thing to happen. x3

Yes, I'd be lying if I said Mr. Roddenberry's work wasn't a strong influence on my love of science fiction, and incidentally this story, though I'm working on trying to show that this isn't just some fanmade copy of Star Trek. I put lots of time, effort, and thought into creating this world... I haven't been able to draw that separating line yet, however, but hopefully in the next few chapters (when I can get around to them), I can make my story shine a bit more on it's own light and not the allusion of "borrowed light".
