god bless these descriptions for letting me infodump about the history of numa numa's popularity in japan, starting out as a fan music video based off of misheard lyrics, to being picked up as the actual official music video with slight modifications, to avex media going "let's copyright and merchandise these cats to hell and back!!!!" despite originally just being internet-owned characters with no real permission to do much based off of them, accidentally starting a drinking trend in japanese schools and having multiple users send death threats to the company over its use, to a scandal where apparently one of the employees going into a thread to say "it's not that bad all of you are just butthurt!!!!!" was also caught operating a panty forum under the same posting ip, multiple parodies and characters being made out of the whole situation before i think things finally de-escalated
