I get it and know exactly what is being referred to here. "Mainstream" Christianity (and Judaism as well), pretty much ignores/covers up all of the weirder, more disturbing things clearly stated in Biblical scriptures, and even eliminating whole books mentioning things that they are most uncomfortable with. Yahweh/Jehovah/God himself is described even in current Bibles with huge wings, claws like bull's horns, a shiny golden countenance, prefers offerings of meat above anything else, (including Midianite virgins), demands and hordes all the gold looted by the Israelites, and even "spews fire from his mouth and smoke from his nostrils". Heck, the Holy Scriptures could have just as easily (and accurately) been describing "Smaug the Golden" from the Hobbit!
