It's not even that Raf doesn't want to learn the song, but he has a competition coming up that he absolutely must place in, as his parents have highlighted it as a "do or die" crossroads in his career. And so, he'd prefer to fully perfect the piece he's already comfortable with rather than risk it all on a Caprice that highlights a technique he's always struggled with up to this point. But his dad is right. The left handed pizz in Caprice 24 has a pretty legendary reputation, and any young musician who can pull it off with strong accuracy leaves an impactful impression.
It's just...Raf is under so much stress. The next few months are a fight for his life.

Parents can cause a lot of damage without even knowing it, and entitled parents are unlikely to ever realize or admit to any damage that reveals itself down the road.
I'm glad Raf got to split from his family and find his own happiness, even if it's painfully clear on his young face that he was completely stuck in the spider's web at this stage of his life..
Also, love how pompous and pretentious the dad's text is, compared to Raf's. Very fitting for a rich, entitled parent.
Can't wait to see the upcoming comic! <3

Yeah, I feel that. I have vivid memories from my childhood of excitedly going "I'll try my best!" and my mom instantly responding "Don't try. Just do.". I don't even remember the context, I just remember the slow descend from "I'll try my best!" to "I'll try." to "Ok.". But at least it's taught me a lot about how NOT to parent, in case I ever have kids!
