I know Vivian identifies as 'female' in the latest Paper Mario game, but I say that doesn't matter because Vivian is cute no matter what he/she identifies as. And me giving my support. Outfit is simple.
Vivian belongs to Nintendo
Me is me

In theory, yeah, the point about identification being valid is accurate~
On the other hand, Vivian being a character that someone wrote means that 'the character expressing their autonomy' is an incoherent statement. The depicted character is only expressing what a writer or artist wants them to express at the time (even if its fun to imagine things like 'what Vivian might say', etc.).
Thus what matters is 'what does it mean to have a character express a certain position or viewpoint' - representation, context, etc etc.
Personally, I think it would be fun if you had two versions of the picture, one that said "Obviously Male" and one that said "Obviously Female". but that's just me.
(Also, as a side note, there is a typo in your text: it should be "And I love them both")
