Like i said earlier, it'd be easier to tell what you are doing wrong if your scanner didn't eat it up x.x your scanner didn't even really pick up the shading that well. And from the looks of it its not enough variance in the brightness of the lighted areas versus the darkness. But like i said, find a better setting for your scanner before hand because, I'm kind of critiquing blindly here with the quality loss from your scanners settings bleaching the pics brightness :/
