Yes, the joke is that on Anima the S is a symbol of great meaning. Humans used to live on Anima with the other animals but they didn't get along. They were given planet of their own (earth) after begging the gods to help them escape extinction. Knowledge of the S carried over to earth, but no one remembers its actual meaning.
We used to use the S symbol exactly as it is depicted, but it turns out someone actually trade marked the S for themselves in 2020. So we had to make a little change to it.
