To start this off I feel the need to clarify this piece is no way a condemnation or promotionary piece for religion. While I myself don't actively practice any religion I don't hold ill feelings towards anyone who does or doesn't practice a religion. Sorry just wanted to clarify that incase someone thought I was trying to make some social statement here, especially considering recent political events in America.
Now we can get to our usual breakdown of the piece. I'm still working on headshots but wanted to try and branch out a bit more so I decided to try and draw a character holding a prop. I decided to have her holding a crucifix because I like the imagery of a character remorsefully holding some holy icon or relic while praying, sorta like a less militant version of a paladin in a fantasy setting praying with their sword before a battle. I also wanted to try work on directional lighting more and really push the directionality of it, which I feel I did particularly well in this piece. For the most part I did my usual shading and highlights with 2 highlight colours and 3 shade colours, forgot to do the 4th but theres not really a place for the 4th here so its mostly ok. When thinking of how to push the directionality of the lighting I decided to really go for the darkening of areas so you can see the hair on the back of her head is darker then the rest of it while I also did some subtle all over shading over her face to push it darker. Then I did a rim highlight on the entire right side of her and tried to pick some other area's that should also have a highlight on them like her cheek bones. I did the tuft shading I've been practicing in the ears again as well as putting some on the jaw line to better denote it and some on her neck to make it seem like the fur there is fuzzier. Ultimately I think this piece ccame out very well and the only thing about it Ireally think I failed in is the hands, they just look a touch off to me so I'll have to make sure to include more hands in my practice images. Ok I think thats all I have to say about this piece.
Thanks for viewing my art
