This is a Sniffler! They're really cute, and have an AMAZING sense of smell, so amazing in fact they can even smell magic!!
They're used to sniff out magicians in hiding.
Gavin is a late bloomer, so he developed his magic runes waaaay later than your average magical elf. Well after he had already passed the screening to enter the knight's academy.
For some reason the academy Snifflers really like him, and wag their tails like crazy! Which is so funny because he doesn't have any magic runes at all! They already checked! Haahaaa!
And he thought he was normal like everybody else..... Ooooh, he'll get expelled if he's found out wont he....
