Aw man, i know how you feel. I just see a style and i feel a sudden rush to imitating it then i kinda go back to mine then I just go all over the place xD But I really like how you're not afraid to try new things. It's what kept me a fan of your a work for a long time, and every time you get better! <33
Imitating is such a bad thing. It's just so, tempting and you do it withought realizing, but it's easy to fall into a copy cat hole. It's good to reference, just from a lot of people not one or two. Its why ive been playing around with different styles, trying to find something I feel fits me and is my own, cause it's not fun being in that hole :<
It's because they're complimentary. I checked a color wheel to check and for example, yellow goes with purple, pink goes with green. All together like that it makes for an odd picture, but parts match in my picture. Apparently, I chose colors pretty well on my own, though I should be using a color wheel more often when I'm not trying to make things way too bright.
Actually, it's also possible it looks odd to you because of you're monitor. Shades play an important part. For me, and my friend it looks pretty good. These colors look way too bright and odd on some monitors, while on others it works pretty great. Originally, the walls were yellow, which looked good for me, but was way too bright for my friend, so I tried a cooler color.
