Nessie Pleist (rhymes with "heist") lives with her single mother in the Orange Islands. Not having much money, Nessie's mother sewed a lot of clothing for herself and her, sometimes repairing and reusing used ones that she picked up from clothing banks. Her sewing skills were later crossed over to other accessories like bags and cushions.

While working full-time, the co-workers encouraged Nessie's mother to sell her crafts after seeing all of the accessories she had made. Because the Orange Islands are a HUGE tourist destination, she knew it was a big opportunity to do so. Although the side business didn't make much money, at least she knew it could give Nessie a better opportunity for a better life and education.

Although she is home schooled in her early years, Nessie did pick up her mother's sewing skills and even made her own clothing. As her mother saved up enough money from her side business, she knew it was time to send her daughter into the PCA. Once enrolled, to the Lapras it was completely different from the island life she was used to. Being home schooled, she is a little nervous about making new friends, but eventually some students started to ask about her clothing and where they could get them. To their surprise, Nessie explained to them that she made them herself and that her mother taught her sewing. Some of her classmates were even encouraging her to take sewing/home economic classes to enhance her skills.
