Oh boy was this one a mess to get done, but when it was done I was quite surprised with how well it came out. So the long of it made short is that originally this piece was made with a landscape style canvas like my other headshot practice, with the head exactly as it is now just facing upwards, but after nearly 2 hours of work I couldn't get a body for it working until I rotated the whole image. Now for the in depth shit. The original image I based this off was of 1 fox playfully biting another fox from below, so this head was coming upwards. But I couldn't figure out a humanoid body for that pose and struggled with nearly 20 different attempts at making a body for it until I had an idea. So I rotated the entire image 90 degree's clockwise resulting in the head being as it is now and then it was super easy to just slap a torso on that piece and start shading. Like some of my other recent practice images I tried to focus this one on real noticeable directional lighting with a lightsource positions to the upper left side of the image. The full image uses 3 shade tones and 2 highlight tones, with one shade tone only being used for super deep crevasse like area's, such as around the eye, and the brightest highlight only being present on the edge of the character providing some rim/edge highlighting and a little bit on the beret as well. I do think however I could have used my 2nd shade tone a bit more on the torso to give it even more depth of shade, but due to the debacle with finding a body pose I was already very behind on this piece and wanted to finish it quickly and that sort of shading would require a bunch more experimentation that I didn't have time for. The character also originally didn't have a hat and instead was going to be covered in fluffy fur like on the right most side of her head but I just couldn't resist putting a beret on her and instead only did the fluff in the part of her head not covered by the beret. I think I need to also begin working on getting a believable fur texture working because sometimes it can feel like my characters have really smooth skin instead of fur. I also tried to work more with getting that inner ear fluff to really pop and I'm starting to fell happy with the results there which is good. The teeth probably could have used a bit more work and some more teeth instead of the one big tooth and tiny little strip of teeth. There isn't really anything else to say so I'll wrap this up here
Have a wonderful day/night
