I once visited a college campus in California. All the squirrels there were FAT. I mean they were almost round in shape, because everyone kept feeding them. While there, I was walking along a path through a woodsy area, when one of the squirrels ran up in front of me and gave me a very expectant look. Lucky for me, I had a bag of gummi-worms in my pocket, so I gave it half a worm and it wobbled off into a bush. Then, as I continued down the path, the realization struck me -- I had just paid a toll. o.O

Many people don't realize that in the olden days, squirrels were often highwaymen.

we had a hedgehog in our garden the other day! :D it was so cute! it came up to us! then got bored and left under the fence... :D SOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D SPIKEY!!!!!!!

I so wish we had squirrels living in the neighborhood!

Awh! That's a friendly little squirrel. Most of ours run off if they hear us move inside, never mind get close to them outside! XD

This particular little guy is apparently used to people giving out snacks... he was skittish until the guy in the picture pulled out a slice of bread - then it turned into a show of non-stop 'hey, lookit me!' maneuvers.

There were many happy to feed squirrells in maine, as well as deer, who eat right form your hand...brings back memories ;33333

The only place around here I've ever seen tame deer at is a park called Lave Beds National Monument... they come right up and nibble carrots out of your hand. :3

Squirrells are so smart. There's this college experiment where, students will give a squirell with a nut. The squirrel will hide the nut. And then the student will get the nut, show the squirrel they found it, and give it a new one. And then the squirrel will pretend to plant the nut a couple of times before really planting it. And each time they take the nut from him, the squirrel will pretend to plant the nut in several more places before he actually burries it.

I've never petted a squirrel, but I did touch one's tail once. :P

its probably not something you want to do in case they bite you and have rabies. :3 Though I've heard of people keeping pet squirrels before. And then building complex things to make the squirrels work for treats. :3

I've read that it's actually kind of hard to get rabies from a squirrel... you're most likely to catch it from bats or raccoons. :P
