My recurring rant every year around the nobel prize season "here we have a cermony honoring some f the greatest scientific discoveries all year, and what's all he swedish tabloids focus on? 'oooh, what dress will princess Vitoria wear?' with only the winners of the literature prize and peace prize becoming widely known and discussed in the culture section". Science has the oppertunity to save life, revoltionize thought and deepen our understanding about the universe, and as much as I like a good book, I do not think anyones life has been saved by "catcher in the rye". It's not that I dislike the literatue prize, in fact, I really enjoy it, it's that wish people would be less ignorant of science in general, we didn't boter to uncover this stuff just so that people could cling to old superstitions and ignorance.
Anyway, rant aside, Marie I think mostly writes young adult fiction to pay the bills, but it wouldnt surprise me if she has a more serious manuscript on the backburner. I like to take anyoppertunity I can to get my character into red dresses, because those nearly always look good (well, not when I draw them, but still)
Last year, I got to attend a lecture by the 2009 nobel prize winner in chemistry, Ada Yonath. It was great, it sorta began as a biochemistry 101 before she picked up speed and drove half the audience out of the room and sent my head spinning with cryo bio-crystallography and stuff. She made a good attempt at presenting it so that everyone could understand, but it is kinda hard to go from "what are ribosomes?" to cutting-edge research without losing some people on the way. You can find some examples of her work here, http://www.weizmann.ac.il/sb/faculty_pages/Yonath/
Anyway, the actual image, I decided to make the bottom part black and white, to contrast the imagination with reality. I am not good enough to do it the Watterson way and have the imaginary reality be more detailed.
And what's the deal with the nobel prize circle anyway? Why do th wantpeople to stand in such a specific spot? is it there where the brain-rays to harvest peoples intelligence are, or is it actually a trap door to eject winners who behave rudely? I guess I will know when I win the nobel prize in making stupid cartoons and puting them on the internet, a category i am su they wll create just for me.
