“I’m still learning about all these special days from the world beyond the islands, especially this ‘Hal-oh-ween’ one. So far, I know it involves lots of candy, wearing spooky costumes, and now carving pumpkins into things called ‘Jack-O-Lanterns’.

According to Lucia, you carve faces into them that are supposed to be spooky, but end up looking cute. Lucia says they are supposed to ‘frighten away evil spirits’ or something like that, not sure exactly how they do that, but okay.

Carving them seems simple enough, and it’s fun spending time relaxing with Lucia, she even gave me this pumpkin shirt to wear that matches hers, and is very comfy. Afterwards, she says we’ll take the pumpkin innards we scoop out and make something called ‘pumpkin pie’, which sounds good.”

‘Then, once you carve the face and hollow it out, you put a candle inside it to make it light up.’

There are few things as iconically Halloween as carving pumpkins to make Jack-O-Lanterns, and in this cute and wholesome picture by Usagiforehead we see Lucia teaching Ember to do exactly that. :).

A great picture of these friends relaxing and having festive fun together for Halloween. I love how calm and relaxing this picture is and how happy they both look, and how cute they both look in their pumpkin shirts as they get ready for Halloween. From their expressions you really get the impression that Lucia is instructing Ember, who is trying to follow along with her friend’s instructions. The orange of the pumpkins and shirts gives a nice brightness to the picture, while the blue of Lucia’s hair and the red and black of Ember’s hair really pop against the treehouse background. And I do love Ember’s dragonhead belt buckle worn on her side like that, a nice touch, I think. All in all, a relaxing, festive, and fun picture for the holiday. :)
