=== Volume Two Wrap-Up ===
I saw a couple comments speculating if the wolves had begun to domesticate bison but perhaps they just had it a bit backwards.
Domestication is a really fascinating (and not entirely understood) phenomenon in nature. Some animals can domesticate and some simply cannot. (Zebras are a prime example of an animal that cannot be domesticated, despite many concentrated efforts.)
I especially love the (very) fringe anthropological theory that our long-ago pre-sapien ancestors self-domesticated.
In an anthro world, I really wanted to play with the idea of wolves self-domesticating. And so with that--finally--we have unlocked the blue-eye achievement for characters. (Blue eyes do not occur in the wild outside of infancy, but frequently pop up in animals with domestication syndrome.)
So there you have it! The Zenith was right, world is indeed changing, and wolves can (must?) change with it.
I have a longer wrap-up for Volume Two over here, as a free/public post on my Patreon. Check it out if you want!
Anyway, thanks again for being on this journey with me. I appreciate you all as readers and I hope you enjoy where we go next!

The world is changing. The old ways don't work anymore. The zenith themselves are evidence of that, with bison and wolves working together to survive. That's progress. Their mistake is thinking that theirs will be only kind of progress that pushes the world forward. There will be competing ideas, things that work differently, or even better. Trying to stamp others out rather than develop themselves will ultimately be their undoing.
Well, this is most certainly a great ending to this chapter.
I feel like I I'm missing something about the wolf with the Heterochromia eyes. Like she should be familiar to me but somehow isn't.
And now for something else. I wonder if in keeping balance the Zenith Pair are female and male. If so then I'm guessing the wolf is female and the bison is male. Or they could both be female.

Freaking sheesh. Nothing but fucking mistakes with my comment. Let's try the fuck again. Maybe the 3rd time will be the fucking charm. Sheesh.

Not only are blue eyes a sign of domestication, but so are certain pelt patterns. There's piebalding that pops up now and then in wild animals, yes, but it tends to crop up far more frequently in anything that's had humans involved in domesticating it, along with floppy ears in canines. The Russian fox domestication is a prime example of all three, as they bred for friendliness to see if they *could* domesticate the red fox, they started getting more foxes with floppy ears, curly tails, non-standard fur colors and patterning... Which you can actually see in Zootopia, too - The pigs in the movie are all pink-skined and floppy-eared, something that only comes from domestication, which means, much like the animals in Oren's Forge are starting to do, they self-domesticated to a heavy degree(Arguably heavier than any animals besides the sheep, since the thick wool of a sheep is ALSO from domestication). In all, genetics is fascinating!
Someone else mentioned this but it's also a sign of not being selected out of existence right? In wild animals they kind of just breed when they can due to whatever is in their nature, with humans we can guide that to our whims. But these are intelligent animals so they kind of 'self domesticate' once they're able to have any control over their fate.
A white deer is rare because they're more likely to die in the wild, and there isn't a preference for deer to have a white fur mate. However in this world maybe white fur would become prominent because:
1) they can organize defenses to keep the white dear alive where wild deer cannot.
2) maybe a white deer is a preferable mate because it's considered blessed or somehow special?
so I could see all kinds of 'domesticated' gene expressions popping up from self-selection of intelligent animals once they're not only at the whim of 'natural selection'. Just a thought.

That's a fascinating point! But it also brings to mind how in certain areas, due to specific factors, certain genes, even barring human presence, can become incredibly common, like the Cinnamon, Glacier, and Kermode bears - All subspecies of the American Black Bears, but they're distinct because of their colorations(Red, silvery grey-blue, and white, in that order). Especially for the Kermode bears, they don't exactly blend in with their environment. But then... When you're one of the top predators of a region, the pressures to blend in aren't always the same, are they? (Insert a thinking emoji, man I wish FA had emojis ROFL) And the Cinnamon and Kermode aren't even isolated(And in fact, only 10% of the Kermode population is white - The rest are regular-coloration black bears!).
What I'm getting at is, now I'm just picturing bears in Oren's Forge wanting to preferably have cubs with these non-standard colored bears because, hey, maybe they ARE blessed, they got to this old and they're still here!
