Graveyard Guardian | Feral To Anthro Mouse TF
A ghostly, hollow wind blew through the unattended graveyard. Unlit lamps hung over a sea of snow-covered graves, most of which were unfortunately unmarked.
The world had gone through tough times these past few centuries. Wars, famine, collapse of civilizations…it left the world with very few beings remaining. Most everyone else were buried in graveyards scattered across the world…The once lush landscapes were now coated by unending night and harsh, chilling snow.
…But things were slated to change. After having abandoned its creation for the past 300 years, the creator of the world had decided to turn its face back to its creation. Of course, there was a long way to go to salvage the cesspit of despair the world had become…but the power of a deity was limitless, after all.
The first step to revival was making sure the many graveyards of the world were in prime condition once again. There must be a proper memorial of all those who died in these past generations, after all.
And so The Creator sent a being into the world, which as luck would have it, was arriving in this graveyard at this very moment.
A cloaked figure materialized at the edge of the cemetery. Its cloak was a dark, tranquil blue, and featured black stripes around the bottom. The figure itself had no discernable body. One may even say the cloak WAS its body. It went by many names. Death, The Grim Reaper, The Harvester…no no, such misunderstanding labels…This being truly was referred to as Veya, Shepard Of Souls. Twas not the cause of death, no. Twas merely a guide to those who lose their way on the way to the afterlife.
Tonight though, it had a much different task. Veya was to travel to each graveyard and select a keeper for it. Of course, that was going to be exceedingly difficult, so Veya was given completely free reign on how to select guardians for each graveyard.
The ghostly figure floated through the chaotically arranged rows of graves, scoping out the scenery for any intelligent life it could assign the role to. As expected, Veya could not. Even with its night vision, Veya knew it likely wouldn’t find anyone for miles around.
“Hmmm…What to do…what to do…” Veya hummed to itself, continuing to look around fruitlessly.
“I could create an entirely new being…yes yes I could…it would be very cumbersome…not magic I’m capable of…” Veya wondered aloud to itself. As it did so, it felt something beginning to tug very gently on its cloak.
“Hmm…?” Veya hummed, looking down at the ground, where it was met with a small, grey rat attempting to nibble at Veya’s cloak.
“Well hello there, little creature…” Veya hummed, slowly leaning down to the mouse. Veya was a little surprised that such a simple creature could see it with no help…but animals DO have special senses, after all. Much more sensitive than humans.
Veya then began to get an idea…
“Hmm, you have a lot of potential, little creature…” Veya said, slowly producing a hand in order to gently pet the mouse. It seemed to enjoy it, given how it stopped nibbling.
“…Well, The Creator did say I could use any means necessary…so…”
Veya began to levitate the mouse a few inches off the ground. The mouse immediately began squeaking in fear and squirming around in an attempt to break free.
“I know it must be frightening, small thing…but fear not, by the end you will have a new life, and new purpose.” Veya said, proceeding to motion upwards with its hand, causing the rat to be lifted up onto its hind legs. It looked rather unnatural and a little humorous, though of course that would change shortly.
“Now then, let’s see if I remember the spell…” Veya began, clearing its nonexistent throat as the mouse continued squeaking in fear.
“Rise, beast…forgo two of your legs…” Veya started the spell. Immediately a glowing, magical aura began to envelop the mouse.
The mouse’s whole body began to grow, swelling to about half the size of the average human. Its confused squeaks intensified as the world seemed to grow smaller around it, and it would only get even more confused when its front legs would begin to change.
The bone structure shifted, straightening out and gaining a new joint at the halfway point, allowing the appendages to be more flexible and dexterous. Following that, the paws would change with the toes growing out slightly, and all of them changing to a consistent thickness. Along with that, more new joints would begin to form, making the ‘toes’ much more adroit. Finally, two new appendages grew out of the mouse’s newly-forming hands; two thumbs. With that, the mouse’s front legs and paws had been converted into a set of arms and hands, and they quickly migrated to the sides of the mouse’s body, forming shoulders as well.
The mouse began to flail its new arms in confusion as the magic continued to work its…well, magic with Veya continuing the chant up. “Rise, creature, let your mind expand, feel your body shift.”
And on command, a thought suddenly crossed the mouse’s mind.
(“What’s happening to me?!”) The mouse’s eyes then widened. Quite literally, in fact. Its eyes grew in size, becoming more proportionate to its changing self.
(“Did I just-?”) The mouse thought, his sense of confusion and worry only growing as he realized his senses were deepening. He could comprehend the odd, tingling sensation he was feeling all over his body from the spell. Currently it was most prevalent in his ears, as they began growing out, becoming more circular in the process as well. But that wasn’t it, the rest of his head began to change as well. His snout extended some, and his facial muscles began to become more sophisticated, allowing him to make fully-fledged facial expressions and even talk!
“My face-!” The mouse blurted out, and immediately upon processing what he just did, the mouse covered his mouth in shock. This caused Veya to chuckle a bit.
“I know it must be daunting, seeing your body change like this…but hold steadfast my dear mouse, you’ll find this new existence is much more preferable.” Veya trilled.
The mouse gulped and nodded, processing his first ever complicated sentence…it was so surreal being able to understand and process all this…
But the mouse wouldn’t have the chance to think on that for now, for he felt his changes resuming.
His lower body and legs began to grow. His rounded and stubby shape was traded out for a straighter, leaner, humanoid shape. The mouse shivered as he felt his paws sink into the snow from his lengthening legs. He kept his digitigrade stance though, thankfully his tail lengthened significantly to allow him to balance properly with his new bipedal stance.
With that, the mouse was finished transforming, now fully anthropomorphic.
“W-Woah…” The mouse gasped, examining his new body.
If Veya had a mouth, it would’ve smiled warmly as it approached the mouse.
“There we are…much better…now, how does it feel, mouse?” Veya asked the mouse.
The mouse held his new hands in front of his face, flexing his fingers a few times.
“I…It feels really great! I feel like a whole new me!” The mouse cheered before looking down at himself again…
…His fur wasn’t feeling all that concealing anymore, and he let out another squeak of embarrassment as he quickly tried to obscure himself with his arms and hands.
“I uh…feel a little exposed though-“
Veya nodded. “Ah…yes…” It then looked up expectantly. “If you will, my lord.” Veya asked, motioning to the mouse.
The mouse was confused at first, and even more confused when a set of clothes began to form on him, starting with a tunic and fluffy-coat combo on his torso, continuing with a brown pair of pants, and ending with a set of black spats which covered the mouse’s paws up to his toes.
“W-Woah!” The mouse chirped with wonder, admiring his new outfit. “H-How did-?” He tried to ask, but Veya cut him off.
“The Creator. They are the one that gave me the power to give you new life as well…now then, allow me to enlighten you on your new purpose…first though, we must give you a name…”
The mouse let out a ‘hm’ and looked around for a few moments, then scratched his head…he was then reminded of his grey fur…like ash..
“…How about Ash?” The mouse declared.
“…Yes yes…that suits you well, Ash.” Veya responded, causing Ash to smile widely. “Now, allow me to inform you of your duties…”
And as Veya began its explanation, Ash listened intently, eager to begin his duties. This new life seemed really promising!
