This was from last May when I graduated with my Bachelors in Fine Art and had to make a piece for the show. I focused on genetic manipulation and how it is incorporated into society - in this case, a pet shop. I made five different genetic mods, all with different reasons. The only one I don't have an image of is my salmon-chicken, which was an ugly bugger anyway.
Now this one is a dangerous critter. When making it, I had originally designed it to be a puppet, but the last-minute mechanics just didn't work out. My thoughts were along the lines of "how do I improve an octopus?" Let me tell you - it's hard! I did some hard research on octopi and they are really, really awesome. They have three hearts, venom, ink, they can change color and textures at will, they can mimic other animals, no matter what direction their bodies are in their eyes rotate to remain horizontal, they are master escape artists, can live for over ten minutes out of water and in worst-case scenarios, they can "fly". Yeah. So the best thing to do would be to give it amour. So I bred it with a pangolin (also pretty cool if you don't know about them) and gave it full-body scales and massive claws on top of all the other wonders octopi already have. Pretty darn cool.
