Base layers are one of the most crucial pieces of apparel for a felnac, providing cushioning for equipment and shielding their coat from direct sun.
Many base layers are also designed to act secondarily as a blanket or bedding.

Top: a basic gambeson, fitted with leather straps along the belly and chest. A cowl is joined to provide additional shielding or insulation.
Middle: a more refined gambeson, strapped to the legs with bracers, often tailored to a felnac's specific body.
Bottom right: a felnac sleeping beneath an undone base layer. Pictured below is an overview of the base layer.
