It appears as though Sally's experience in that abandoned laboratory really changed her... though it's not abandoned, really. Not anymore. It's her laboratory now, and science is her domain. With a brain overflowing with twisted knowledge and a body trapped in the limbo between life and death - though she'd hardly call it a trap if you asked her - she has limitless lifetimes to delve into the forbidden secrets of the universe and perform all the experiments she sees fit.
Of course, it's no fun being a mad scientist all by your lonesome. You need lab assistants and partners in crime - who else would appreciate your eccentric genius and laugh maniacally with you otherwise? Thankfully, Sally remembered some friends and acquaintances in her past life, and it wasn't hard for a genius such as herself to concoct a scheme to lure them to her (and soon-to-be their) new home. One round of experiments later, and she would have a proper girl posse, all full of intelligence and wickedness in their own special ways, ready to defy mortality and push the limits of science with together.
